BA is changing their reccomended doseage from 2 a day to 3 a day... research has shown that the original dosage just isnt enough for post-WLS patients.... the more time that passes the more they are learning about the importance of these suppliments!!! Because of this dosage change they are doing away with the 60 tablet bottles... keeping the 180 (2 month supply) and have introduced a 270 tablet bottle (3 month supply). Each tablet is 400mg of cali****o the dosage is changing from 800 a day to 1200 a day... personally I was already taking 3 a day so if are currently taking a lower amount I suggest upping and/or talking to your surgeon. I purchased the 270 tablet bottle for approx $42... that comes out to only $14 a month - not a bad deal!

Jennifer is right! Calcium is important! It's one of those things that is easy to get into the habit of forgetting, but over time you will pay the consequences. I recently had a bone scan (dexascan) done and was diagnosed with osteopenia, which means my bones aren't as dense as they should be and if I don't do something about it I will eventually develop into full-blown osteoporosis. It shouldn't come as a surprise that I wasn't taking my calcium as much as I was supposed to.  I know it's a pain the butt to remember and i don't look forward to those big horse pills, but I signed up for it when I decided to have an RNY, so now my doc has me up to 1500 mg a day - which equates to two Calcium Citrate pills three times a day. I get mine in a huge bottle from Costco - 300 pills (50 day supply) for 13 dollars.

Thats why I do the chewables - I do 1 chewable 3 times a day... to match your current dosage it would be 1 chewable 4 times a day... I highly reccomend... they are more pricey thou but better than the horse pills IMO!

In addition to the problem of osteopenia Michael mentioned, there is osteoporsis, dental issues, heart issues etc... its EXTREMELY important to get that calicum in EVERY day. I keep a baggie in my desk at work and set two out in the morning... I take one with my mid morning snack and the other with my afternoon snack... when I get home in the evening is when I take the final pill. Soooo important!
