I knew I wasn't the only one.  I got wind of this blogger at Fox News online and tracked down the website.  So go read for yourself.... http://www.diet-blog.com/archives/2008/06/12/six_reasons_to_ keep_a_food_diary.php ...and come back and discuss

I definitely agree with this... I know that since I stopped tracking my food, my weight loss has slowed and I know that I'm "sneaking" in bites of little foods I shouldn't be eating...of course my excuse is "It's nothing like it used to be and never will", but I know deep down, that's what got me into trouble before and it can happen again. Thanks for posting this Amy...it's funny that you did, because earlier today I decided...I think I need to start tracking it again!

My food journal is one of the big reasons I have been successful, and when I don't do it - yikes.  I am the "just a ____" queen - just a few chips, just a couple crackers, just a bite of cake, just a sip of whatever - until I have "just a____" myself an extra 400-500 calories / 40-50 extra grams of carbs throughout the course of the day.  But when I know I have to write it down I can usually control myself - just that extra second to pause and think about it helps a lot. We can't eat a whole bag of anything in one sitting - but one handful at a time over the course of the day and we can.  Ah the dangers of WLS. I hope tracking works for you.  Join the Eatin' Good thread (when I remember to post it...) always happy to have more posters

In just a week of starting to journal, my nutritionist is able to see that I'm still only getting in around 1200 - 1300 calories a day. It felt like I was eating a lot more than that since I was making it a point to graze as often as I could. The calorie deficit between what my body needs to function and my current intake explains my continual slow weight loss. So I imagine it would work well in reverse (if there's a weight gain going on). I hate journaling though.
