New to this board with a question.
Hey My name is Jennifer and I'm a nursing Student in WA state. My surgery is scheduled for June 16th...YUP...just 10 days away!! Yikes! But I am so hopeful. I've been a member here for about 6 months but only just discovered the board in my age group. I am 28 and married and we are BOTH having RNY this month. He's on the 30th. Anyway I just wanted to say hello cause I have a million questions about the effects of WLS on someone my age. Do we usually bounce back quicker? How about the skin thing? I've only been MO for about 4 years now not my whole life so I am desperately hoping it will snap back some though I'm not expecting miracles by any means. But then my basis for comparison is my mother in law who had it 2 years ago at 50 years old. She looks great with cloths on but Ohhh her tummy and boobs!!! How did you guys do? Currently 278lbs at 5'8" Goal 150
Congrats on your surgery date! I think its neat your husband and yourself are going through this together.
Bouncing back is dependent on each and every case. I was ready to go back to work after the third week. I wanted to go back the second week, but the fatigue hit me after that. You're lucky in that you've only had the weight for such a short period of time. Most likely, yours will bounce back in some kind of originality... but if there are alot of stretch marks, it might not be as expected.
Goooood luck!!!! Where is Washington? There is a rabbit show in Ellensburg every year... I'm sad to say this is the year I am unable to make it; totally adore that town!

The more things the change, the more they're still the same.
Hey Jennifer-
Girl...you are at an advantage. To have at one point been a smaller size then gained weight means your body will most likely somewhat remeber what it used to look like, therefore having a better chance to go back to that shape. I mean it won't be 100% but for some us, like myself, who have been MO since elemetary school, there is less hope for the bouce back. My body never knew skinny so it grew up distended and distorted from the weight. I am optimistic though. I just found out you can finance plastic surgery :o) I already know that I will need to undergo further surgery to re-construct my body. But I am doing everything I can in the meantime to make my body the best it can be. Goodluck Jen and let me know if you have anymore questions!

Yeah I just found out that the financing I am using for my co pay portion will also cover PS if I want it. I think I'll be ok mostly except for the girls. Going from a 36c to a 42DD does not do good things ya know? So I'll probably opt to trade in the saggies at some point. Problem is that I don't have kids yet and when I do I want to breast feed and that might be a problem after PS. Hmmm....I may just have to stick it out
I've never bounced back quick from a surgery, even when I was young. I think everyone's recovery time is different, just like our bodies are all different. I was your age when I had my surgery and I needed a full 3 weeks before I could go back to work, and even then I was exhausted.
As far as skin goes, if it still has elasticity, it will bounce back somewhat. I was really hoping I'd have an advantage with age too (and I was only MO for a few years as well), but I have a ton of stretch marks because I gained so fast, which means the skin there has lost its elasticity and won't be going back to the way it was. I did end up doing plastics on my tummy and arms, and I'll be doing boobs after I've paid this surgery down. You can see my profile for my before and after surgery pics. I was about 115 pre-plastics.

Congrats on your upcomming surgery date.
As for bouncing back - I had surgery Tuesday and was back to work Monday - woo hoo.
The excess skin - there are pictures on my profile of my excess skin... I will say that you will have some wiggle, jiggle, flab... I suggest being young you start saving for plastic surgery now and decide later what you need/want... while many people are 'jealous' of the way I look I am anxiously awaiting plastic surgery.
