OT...Mom News

So today I found out the results of my mom's biopsies...both positive...so she has cancer.  I actually can't believe it....I haven't even cried yet...I've been keeping myself pretty busy because I'm flying home tomorrow morning and then leaving straight for camp so I've had to pack for two months in two days....pretty crazy.  The funny thing is that I went up to San Francisco to meet with my surgeon Dr. Husted because I hadn't seen him since my surgery...I knew I would find the results of the biopsies sometime today and it just happened to be that my dad called while i was in my drs appointment!  Of coooourse!  Some good news though...my blood results are all fine and he was very excited about my 130 pounds weight loss.  AND...I'm officially only "overweight" according to my BMI.  One funny thing is that I still have bruises on my stomach from the shots that prevent blood clotting that you get in the hospital...and he was shocked and took a look at them and said they are "tattooed" on me...so basically they will never go away!!  HAHA...WOW!  I wasn't expecting that.  But he said after a year and a half I should probably consider plastic surgery and the area where the bruises are would be removed.  (Not that I can afford plastic surgery in 8 months, but hopefully someday!).  Anyway, I'm leaving for Indiana tomorrow morning and spending some time with my mom.  She has an apointment tomorrow morning with the surgeon to discuss options (probably surgery, radiation, and chemo....)  I'm pretty much still in shock...............................thought I would send an update though!  Thanks for listening to me freak out...

My mom's biopsies just came back negative a couple weeks ago.  I am so sorry your mom is going through this.  I hope they caught it early and get rid of it easily. And enjoy camp, too!

Wow...like Brock, I had a cancer scare with my mom once too. I know just how upsetting that could be. I hope you, your mom, and your family all pull through this OK. And if there is anything at all any of us can do to help, you know we'll be there for you. Good luck this summer, I hope you are able to have some fun in the Berkshires, and whenever you get a chance, find an internet connection and say hi!  p.s. - don't drink the bug juice - it's pure sugar!

Hey Kim!  Congrats on all the good news from your appt.  And have fun at camp!  Those were the best summers of my life, when I worked at camp in college.  I wouldn't mind being a program director at a camp...outdoors are fun!   Seems like cancer is becoming more prevalent as the days go by.  It sucks.  Anyhow, extra prayers will definitely be going up for you and your family.

Kim I am so sorry to hear about your mom Hopefully they caught everything early and it will be able to be easily (as easy as you can take care of cancer) taken care of.  I will definetly put her on my prayer list and pass it on to my moms church.  If you wouldnt mind passing on her name they will print her name in the prayer list, the more prayers the better :) Have fun at camp.  And congrats on just being overweight :)

Kim:   Treating breast cancer can be a long and slow road, but it is not unmanageable.  She has you.  She has your dad.  I'm sure she has wonderful doctors.  There will lots of sunshine for all of you. . .

And, I am wholly envious of your stint as a camp counselor.  It sounds like a dream job. . .
