hi!! i just wanted to stop by and say hello! i am currently looking into having the bypass done, i have been thinking about it on and off for about 2 yrs now (im turning 24 in a couple months). Although, sometimes my fear of hospitals/surgery/pain gets the best of me but now im really trying to think about how this will change my life for the better. I know that this will help my health and overall happiness. If any of you guys were really afraid of surgery or hospitals and had the bypass done, i would love to hear from you!! thanks!  Heather

Hi Heather, welcome to our AWESOME group. There are those of us here who are a few years post-op to people who like you, are still considering surgery. Some of have had RNY's, others Lap-Bands, DS's, and VSG's, but the one thing we all have in common that sets us apart from the rest of the WLS population is that we made our decisons while we were still young. Of course, with that comes a slightly different set of cir****tances in terms of what we are up against but also in the way that conquering obesity benefits us. So stick around, check out our profiles, make some friend requests, read some threads and start some new ones!

Hi Heather!  I am certainly not fond of hospitals and IV's scare the bejesus out of me.  But I made a list of pros and cons for having the surgery and the pros FAR outweighed the cons for me.  Maybe that will help you feel more secure in your decision?  I had complete faith in my surgeon due to his track record and bedside manner so that helped too. I don't know about you, but I had been overweight since I was about 8 years old and I was tired of living life only half way, of being disappointed I couldn't do or wear the same thing the other girls did.  That's partially why, after a year of research and thinking, I decided to do it now (I am 24).  I also have a 3 year old, and I didn't want him to grow up with a fat mom who couldn't play or run around with him. Maybe you have similar reasons?  I hope you can find peace with your decision =)

HEY HEATHER! I am Kimberly I am new to this lovely group as well, but I am now addicted! lol..I also have been looking into surgery for about 2-3 years now as well and as with you I have the same fear...I've never really been in the hospital for anything and wanted to keep it that way...so I took surgery as the last resort..well that fear went out the window when I hit the 300 mark and was still trucking...I can't control my weight I have tried and now I'm so blessed that we have something like this to help us...bc I have heard so many ppl say "just take off the weight" If you put your mind to it you can do it..and let me remind you these girls were like 5ft6 130 MAX..I mean I just think that some ppl just don't understand how hard it actually is..if it were that easy as putting your mind to it wouldn't we have done that by now instead of taking such drastic measures?  but I am just soo thankful for WLS and please if you have any questions feel free to ask..anything from insurance to classes to apps to pre op to post op we are here to help you  =D Kimmie-K
