Hi!! Im Emily!  When I say I'm new - I mean I haven't even gone to a consultation yet...ha! I have a dr. appt on June 11th so I can meet the surgeon and ask questions and everything. I'm very excited!  I'm also releived to see so many people around my age going through this as well, I felt like I was going to be one of their only patients in their early 20s (im only 20!) so, I'm hoping to meet/talk with a lot of yall!  I was wondering if I could have a little help from yall that have already had the surgrey.  As I said earlier I'm going for my consultation on June 11th and I would like to have some questions to ask. So my question to yall is, are there any questions you wish you would have asked prior to surgrey that you didn't ask?  If so, can you please let me know.   I hope to hear from yall, and I wish the best of luck to every single one of yall!!!! Thank you, Emily

Hi,
I am new to the board but i am one year post op RNY. I am 20 yrs old. I would ask them all about their follow up care and follow up team to take care of you post op. A team that has a dietician and a therapist and works with a GI doc and internist and has support groups can be very helpful to you post op. A lot of the bigger programs offer pre op slim down programs and surgical education programs to work with pre-op and post-op. I am not sure what kind of surgery u r interested in but ask questions about all the procedures and ask for materials to look over too. Remember you don't  have to make a decision that day on what procedure to have , be sure to research your options. I would have consults with a few bariatric surgeons just to see who you connect with and what they offer. Write your questions down, remember that no question is too silly or too stupid at all, i gurantee u they have heard them all before.  Hope this helps. good luck.

Welcome to the board Emily!  I'm Jaci- had my RNY January 6, 2006.  I'm uber anal about knowing everything possible- so I asked about the costs, the procedure, the doctors, the facility, the post care, etc etc.  Get to a support group ike, yesterday he he.  Those members know everything!

The more things the change, the more they're still the same.

Hi Emily, Sorry I am no help to you on this one. All I wanted to know was how much it was going to cost me out of pocket. I also researched the best doctors in town and how many procedures they had done. Good luck at your consultation. ~Diana~
