Well, here I am 8 months since my surgery down 125lbs.  I have had a really bad last month or so only lost about 5lbs YUCK! I am struggling with protein shakes, I had been on the same gnc one for 6 months since my surgery and I am just getting so tired of it.  I ordered beneprotein, because I have had such great luck with benefiber, but it does have an after taste that I do not care for. I have been pretty stressed the last 6 weeks or so, I graduated college on 4/27 and we moved on the firsts of may, I am still unpacking.  I am hoping there are some other post ops that are going through any of the same struggles? I really need to commit to being here more and talking more you guys do help keep me on track and I need that :)

Welcome back, chicky.  Its only natural to bore of the same ol same ol'... can you add any fruit or sugar free syrups to those shakes? I'm sure once your stress level lessens some, you'll be able to get back on track.  While totally stressed at school and loss of my job I wasn't doing well at all with my eating... now that I'm on the job hunt, school is over and I'm ok mentally, it's easier for me!

yeah I am definetly surprised by the affect that some stress had on my eating... I really need to find a good way to eat my protein, i have been doing this chocolate shake i think i might be able to add some berries to it, i ordered beneprotein and i was kinda disapointed they said it was suppose to not have any flavor but it does lol...

Ugh, the worst protein powder I have is unflavored- TOTALLY has a flavor!  Chocolate Syrup doesn't even cover that crap up lmao! Put in some banana for potassium or strawberries... or blueberries for antioxidants! Good Luck!!

First of all, congrats on being down 125 lbs!!  That is absolutely wonderful!  I wouldn't worry about the weight loss last month only being 5 lbs....mine has slowed down dramatically...I only lost like 3 lbs last month.  I mean, I know that I am closer to goal and all...but I'm pretty sure the slow is natural. As far as the protein shakes, I tried some of the unflavored and the beneprotein ones...and they are so disgusting!  I added fruit to mine, and one of my fav shakes is PB and Banana...so I added that to them...because PB pretty much covers up all nasty tastes.  Or, it did in my opinion anyways....hehe Congrats on graduating college!  I know that is stressful and hectic since I just went through it 2 yrs ago...but it was sooo exciting!  What's the next step for ya?? I've not been coming back on the boards as much as I should either, and I definitely need the encouragement to keep on track and lose the last of my weight and to continue exercising like I should....ugh, there just aren't enough hours in the day!!  *hugs*  You can do it!  WE BOTH CAN!

thanks Rianne!! I really had high hope for the beneprotein because i enjoy the benefiber so much but they are obviously completely different animals haha.  how do you mix a pb and banana protein shake cuz that just sounds as yummy as anything.  I am going to try some unflavored protein powder and milk and strawberries and bananas today i think.  I have given up on choking down protein I dont like i just pitch it out. Well since graduating with my degree in elementary education, I am looking for a job in higher education odd huh, I didnt graduate with my teaching certificate, I had a bad student teaching experiance I think some of it had to do with being so close to my surgery and some of it had to do with the teacher I was working for.  so anyway I am looking for a job at my husbands work, he works at a university that specializes in engeneering (i cant spell) here in michigan.

What I do for my PB/Banana shakes (and I'm not saying this is the healthiest or the best way to do it)...is I get some unflavored yogurt, a few T of PB, a Banana (or 2), a few ice cubes, protein powder and some skim milk and blend it up til frothy....it is SOOO yummy.....it takes me a bit to drink b/c it's kind of thick but I love it!

Good luck on your job search! *hugs*

Girl - 5lbs is better than no pounds so celebrate each and every pound lost as it goes!! 125lbs in 8 months is excellent as well!!! I cannot help with the protein shakes - my surgeon likes his patients off them by 6 months out and both he and my NUT push us to get 100% of our protein thru food and not suppliments. If you arnt familiar with greek yogurt check it out - you can find it at most grocery stores and it is PACKED with protein - depending on the brand 1 cup of the yogurt runs approx 20g of protein!!! I eat mine in the morning with some kashi cereal thrown in, SF french vanilla syrup and typically some sort of berries/fruit... its deeeelish!

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)

I would definetly prefer to get my protein in from real food, my NUT wants us to get in between 60-80grams and 800-1000 calories, but I just have a majorly difficult time getting that much protein in.  And yeah I know about greek yogurt, I am pretty sure that is the stuff my husband eats when he has his grape leaves at our middle eastern place. :) I guess I need to pick your brain for what you eat a day haha. How many grams of protein do you eat a day??
