Hey everyone. My name is Jessie, and I'm going to be hopefully getting the RNY very soon. Thought I'd introduce myself and ask a few questions. My first and biggest would be, What do you wish you knew preop and fresh post op that you know now?

Hi Jessie  my name is Katie and i guess the only thing i wish i would have known was how uncomfortable hospital beds can be and how much they poke you while in the hospital. LOL.  If you are worried about not knowing enough info about the surgery then start researching. that's what i did. learn as much as you can and ask your doctor lots of questions. it's his job to know the answers. so i guess there isn't really anything i wish i had known because i felt very knowledgeable. especially if you read up on these boards, people are very open and its extremley helpful. Juts keep me posted. and good luck with everything. Katie

I wish I knew how noisy my hospital room was going to be. How much I would regret taking "official" before pictures and body measurements, and that isopure protein drinks were an alternative to the chalky protein drinks that I thought I would enjoy.

Hmmm.... The hospital stay REALLY sucked b/c someone is waking you up every 30 minutes to stick you with something.  I bawled the entire ride home b/c I was so exhausted. The burping does eventually go away and taking Gas-X dissolvable strips every 2-3 hours really helps.  You WILL start to feel normal again, no matter how sucky you feel freshly post-op. PROMISE!! You may struggle getting life and/or medical insurance coverage in the future because many companies still consider gastric-bypass a major risk.  Your premium quotes could top $900 a month, so don't let your health insurance coverage lapse ever! Your insurance company may promise to pay now, but then decide after your surgery to NOT pay, resulting in battles between you, the hospital billing department, and your insurance. Take lots of pictures and measurements, no matter how much you cringe pre-op.  They will be priceless during your weight loss journey and will really help you see the radical changes in your body/health.  (Somehow, those changes are less visible in the mirror, at least to our silly brains who still see us as "fat" even when we're rockin' in our Skinny ***** jeans!) And yet, it is still REALLY REALLY worth it!    Heather

I don't hardly recognize myself or my life anymore!

Thank you for such great advice. I just took some "Official Preop" pictures last night when I had some down time at work. Its so hard to look at it even now. Apparently, I delude myself into thinking that "I'm not THAT big" ,...

hey- congrats on the upcoming surgery! i don't think i have ever posted here - but i wanted to share something with you. SAVE A PAIR OF YOUR "FAT" PANTS!  i didn't, and i wish i would have. i think it would be neat to get in them now and see the difference.
