Talking CRAP...Not for the easily disgusted...
Many of us notice a huge drop-off in "regularity" after surgery...decreased food intake, decreased fiber, decreased fat intake - I guess those are all factors. What do you guys do to "keep things moving?".....I had a hard time early on and my doctor recomended stool softeners, now, if the morning coffee doesn't do the trick, I occasionally pop one and things work out for me...I buy mine at walgreens, 15 bucks for 200 tablets, one is enough for me though...

I'm almost three weeks out, and I def have that problem. My doctor thinks it might be the medications they put me on (like urso) or that i'm not getting enough liquid. The main problem is, I can't take pills yet.... and anything that even somewhat reminds me of magnesium citrate...is a no no cause thinking about it makes me wanna gag! Anyways, thanks for the post... i'll look for those pills in a week when i can take pills! I guess i prob provided TMI also..... eh, who cares :-)

Miralax has saved my life.
2 tablespoons in my coffee concoction in the morning does the trick *most of the time* and the really nice thing is I can't taste it.
It also helps if you simply drink at least 64 oz of water a day.
For extreme cases, I drink 8 oz magnesium citrate mixed with 6 oz 100% orange juice and that fixes things for me.

Had trouble with this for months. finally just recently I'm getting back on track but its still not perfect. The only thing that has ever worked for me is a vegatable laxative called peridem. I bought it at CVS and it really does work... just make sure you try it on a weekend the first time in case it works a little too well.
I had a huge drop-off only in the early stages when the foods were limited.
At this point I find keeping my diet balanced with lots of veggies and some fruit and a decent amount of whole grains keeps everything going. If I slack on my veggies I will notice a difference...
I always check the fiber in grain products I buy - fiber one bars are excellent... the protein isnt as high as in a south beach cereal bar, but you get a good dose of fiber. Trader Joes fiber muffins/cakes are also another great source.
Some products will break the fiber down between soluable and insoluable so that can help when choosing products as well.
Early out I did use benefiber, but have never tried anything else.

I had really bad problems with this but for the past 2 months have been regular with the help of 3 teaspoons of Fibersure in 10 oz water before bed and a fiber one bar between lunch and dinner has really saved me in that respect...every day nearly unless I miss a dose of either one...

Those are special little somethings that I will get up out of a cozy bed if I have forgotten to take them-because I KNOW the reprecautions!
