Old habits Die hard

I am looking for some pointers on changing your eating habits to those required after surgery... such as chewing each bite 25-30 times and no liquids with meals.  I am struggling with some of these, and need some help... What worked for you? What didn't? Should this be so difficult for me... I feel as though I am failing and I haven't even had the surgery yet! I know it has to do with taking the time to be conscientious about it but that's usually easier said than done. Anything you post will greatly help me! Thanks, Jules.
At the end of the day, you can either focus on what tears you apart or what holds you together...

Honestly for me, I tried doing all that stuff before surgury as well. and I couldn't. Surgery made me do it. I didn't have a choice. It was that or in extreme pain because I didn't chew well enough, I ate too fast, and/ or I drank with meals. It really is a very un comfortable feeling, and you learn hopefully the first time. haha.

My surgeon said to not worry about those things until after surgery - basically you are forced into it and have to do it... and you have consequences if you dont. I would focus more on changing what you are eating and working exercise into your routine - the rest will come after surgery. Work on cutting out/reducing sodas, sugar, fried foods, fast foods, junky stuff etc. Start reading labels and learn what to look for when buying products. Find WLS friendly products at the store so you know where to go post-op and avoid all the baaaaaad isles (hello cooooookies!)... check out WLS friendly recipies and make yourself a cookbook for the different post-op stages... find where to get your vits/supps from and start taking them...  Again you will quickly learn post-op to do those things... eating too big a bite hurts and could possibly get stuck or make you yak... drinking with food hurts and could possibly make you yak (lol)... do it once or twice and you wont do it any more!

Trust when you have the surgery you will have no choice.  I am 2 weeks out and I have learned the concequences of that.  I at lunch and then tried to drink about 5 minutes after.  LOL!!!!!!!!!!!  My stomach was so full all I could do was lay down.  You will learn very quickly what to do and what not to do.
