So it seems my employeer (self-insured) does not cover WLS.   I am wondering if anyone on here had to finance/self-pay.  If so, how did you go about it? I am new to this site and am just trying to see what all my options are.

Talk to your surgeon... I know there is a financing option through creditors as well.  Unfortuately, I didn't self pay and can't really offer much insight.

The more things the change, the more they're still the same.

I have to pay 10% as well as the money to meet my very high deductible... Didn't have to pay for the whole thing, but I opted to get a presonal loan from my bank to cover those charges due to the lower flat-rate interest. Lots of people use care credit, depending if your surgeon accepts or not. You can check it out at www.carecredit.com. Good luck!

I was self pay becuase my employer put a block on our insurance for WLS.  I spoke with my surgeons office and they told me what financing options they accepted. I ended up financing mine through surgeryloans.com. I have pretty good credit and got a good rate. They also suggested to me that I could take out a line of credit on my house or a second mortgage for the surgery, the advantage was that you can then write it off on your taxes. But I agree with the other ladies about talking to your surgeon. I called the office before I even scheduled my consultation so I could figure the money part out first! Good luck!

We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.
