Hey Everyone!!! My name is Lara and I'm 19 years old! I am soooo glad I found this section of the site. I have been so worried about not being approved by insurance because of my age! It's so refreshing to see that so many others have taken the steps towards and succeded in WLS at a younger age! I am 235 pounds, 5'2 and will be turning 20 just four days before my surgery date (April 8th)! I will be getting the VBG with sleeve. I'm very nervous about insurance approving me. I have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, and my doctor said they should approve it.... but.... that doesn't mean i'm not nervous!!! lol. I still haven't figured out all the in's and out's of this site.... I posted a few pictures of myself on my profile page, but cant seem to figure out how to get the main profile pic set up! Im not too great with computers. okay, well, I guess I just wanted to introduce myself and say congratulations to those who have already gotten their surgery, and good luck to those who haven't! ~Lara

Welcome! I also would like to suggest visiting the "Lightweights" forum too! I love both and get such great advice from everyone. PS - we lightweights are the ones people say "aren't big enough" for surgery, usually a bmi of 45 or less, in case you were wondering!

Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)

Hey Lara! Welcome to the 20's board! They're a GREAT group of people! I have my last insurance required visit on March 25. Then they'll submit everything to insurance and I'll be waiting just like you. Did your insurance require that you do any sort of diet in order to get approved for WLS?

Nope, with blue cross blue sheild they didn't request a diet ( i know some require a six moth monitored diet) eek! But luckily i dont hafta do one. What about you, are you required to do a diet?

I have BCBS of Texas and unfortunately I had to do one. I started in back in August and my last visit is March 25 and then they will submit everything to insurance. It has actually been a blessing because it has allowed me to learn ALOT about this surgery and changing my eating habits.
