Quitting soda/ liquid diet.
I am giving up soda because obviously you can't have it after surgery right? I haven't had any for about 14 days. I know that isn't a long but it is for me. I hate to admit how much of ahold this addiction had on me. I was having about 4-5 cans a day when i stopped. I just wonder if there is any soda that is okay to have after surgery. Not right after surgery but months down the line. I sound like a wuss I know having just recently given it up and still can't get it out of my head. Any suggestions on keeping this habit kicked would be appreciated.
Also I start my liquid diet soon. (4 days) And it goes on for 16 days. Anything especially tasty that was your favorite? I worry about getting burned out on the liquid diet. Or is it just inevitable?
Thanks
That's great! My doc banned soda and gum for me so those are eternal no-no's. But I did transfer my love of soda to Crystal Light fruit punch. Satisfies the sweet because I don't care for plain water. After you have surgery and go without soda for even a month, you may find that it's TOO sweet and you don't even WANT it. That's how it was for me (I quit two months pre-op)
Sorry I have no suggestions for the liquid diet. I was put on Slimfast and crystal light or water only by the doc (oh and s/f jello). It sucked, totally, but I just kept telling myself it was the last time I'd ever have to "diet" for the rest of my life and that made it bearable.
I love the different Crystal Lights so that will probably be a permanent thing in our house. I think it is just the burn of soda that I miss. Because I got over the caffiene headaches & sugar withdrawls after day 8. And I don't miss those! I really really hope that after surgery chocolate will be too sweet for me. LOL That would be great!
My liquid diet is pretty leniant. I even get to have 4 oz. of chicken breast a night. My doc said NO SLIMFAST which sucks cause that was what I was gonna do. But oh well. I have my list of things I can have so i'm not too worried about it. But thank you for the advice. I will keep telling myself that this is the last diet.
My docs allowed me to have soda... BUT it had to be diet decaf and flat. which isnt bad. Mine don't allow alot so i have had about 8oz or a can once during the week. not every week, but everyone in a while... but i didnt try it till after a month of being banded, even though they allowed it. The told me that once i got my fills the caffine might bother me thats why it needs to be flat. But I would encourage you to stick to your goals about not drinking it, I gave it up too before surgery and for the month after and it did help keep the weight off and kept me from feeling bloated. It's not something that is that good for you, water is the best, the crystal lite packs are awesome, propell has good ones too. For my liquid diet i just stuck to water, and CIB shakes. also if ur allowed jello or sf pudding i would suggest that they help keep the hunger off. Chewing gum before hand is good it helps with the head hunger. After surgery some docs done allow it, I chew it now but like soda I waited about a month before i started again. Hope any of this helps
WIsh i could help alittle more but i was never put on a liquade diet. Puraid, but that isnt the same. AS for soda...im 6months out and i drink diet sode. Obviously not like u used to, the sips have to be VERYYYY small b/c of the carbonation, but its diet soda none the less...and thats fine with me! and dont buy cans....u will never ever finish them be4 they get completely flat!! haha,
I did sip on it 4months out as welll....so ull be fine
My husband has been teasing me mercilessly about having to give up my Diet Coke addiction. It's like my only vice!! It's not even the caffeine that gets me, I think I just really like the carbonation. All I know is that around 3pm at work I can barely function without a trip to the soda machine. I'm going to be in sad, sad, shape!
