Prudence has a staph infection...
So my surgeon drew some fluid out of Prudence (my fistula) yesterday and by the look of the skin and the look of the fluid, everything looked fine. Well, he sent the fluid to the lab to have it tested, just in case, for infection. He called me this afternoon with the results. I have a non-agressive staph infection and I am starting to freak out a little bit. People die from staph infections. So I am supposed to monitor my temp and Prudence's size, shape, color and what not, and I'll go in to see my surgeon Monday. He plans to numb me up and slice Prudence open a little bit to get as much fluid out as possible and then pack her. Depending on how that goes and what changes / does not change between then and now and then after he drains it, my surgery may move up, stay the same or get cancelled (one possibility is that after it is drained the fistula will go away on its own).
Frankly, I want Dr. Baker to be more aggressive about this whole thing because I am SICK of crap cropping up. I just want it all to go away. So I would rather he do the surgery and just remove the whole mess so it doesn't come back or whatever. And I am really scared about the infection. Like honestly terrified and wish I didn't have to wait until Monday to get in to see a doctor. Ugh. Wish me luck!

My prayers are with you. I know what it's like to have a staph infection. They are definetly no fun! I've had one before, it was not as serious as yours, but it was still sucked! Hope you get to feeling better soon!
Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.-Isaiah 40:31
I was starting to think the same thing - nothing could just be easy . The only thing I am worried about, if Prudence does indeed go away on her own, would be if she grows back or if having this little ball of tissue floating around would cause problems later with something else. I am sick of problems so I would almost rather just have surgery to remove everything, so I am less likely to have to worry about this again later on. I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Thanks for the response and for always being so encouraging.

Amy, you have my prayers. If you want the doc to be more aggressive, can you ask him to be? If that's the way you want your case to be handled then you have a right to speak up. I understand your frustration. You just want it to be done! Sorry you have to go through all this. Stay strong. Keep us updated.
