I WROTE THIS OF MY CURRENT EVENTS CLASS, AND IT GOT PEOPLE TALKING. I WANTED TO SEE WHTA WOULD HAPPEN IF I POSTED IT HERE! I believe the best candidate for president of the United States in the up cominG election is Senator John McCain. I believe he is the best candidate based on his proven and documented leadership experience, his stand on illegal immigration, his position on abortion and his plan to reform our healthcare system.
After graduating from the US Naval Academy John McCain served 20 plus years in the US military. He displayed his leadership qualities during his tours of Vietnam and his time served as a prisoner of war. In fact, at the conclusion of his tour of duty, John McCain chose to continue his commitment and remain active in the military. This display of leadership, commitment, and loyalty to his country and the soldiers who fought along side him earned him several medals of Honor; including the Bronze Star, Silver Star and the Purple Heart to name a few. Following his service in the military, John continued to serve his country when in 1982 he was elected to the House of Representatives where he served two terms. He was then elected to the US Senate in 1986. His tenacity is demonstrated as the front-runner for the Republican Party for President of the United States.
Senator McCain understands the importance of ensuring illegal immigrants are properly documented as being a vital to the protection and security of the United States. He is committed to securing our borders so that we know who and what is coming in and out of our country. He understands the difference between illegal immigration and immigration and the duty of those that chose to migrate to the United States to learn our history, culture, and values in order to pursue the opportunities afforded to them.
Senator McCain shares my belief in Pro-life. He is against abortion as a whole. More importantly he believes that partial birth abortion is not only wrong but also inhumane. The fact that partial birth abortion is legally performed, in cases where the pregnancy is full term, with the fetus being fully developed and capable of feeling pain is not only inhumane but murderous in my opinion. I understand and recognize the medical necessity for abortion and even the consideration of such due to a certain tragic events (e.g. rape, incest, one or both parents incapable/unwilling to provide proper care). However, I cannot comprehend nor condone this once the fetus is more the three months along or has developed to the point of feeling pain. I believe if a woman is afforded the right to choose, she should be responsible enough to take the steps necessary to prevent an unwanted pregnancy rather than to use abortion to dissolve the result of poor judgment.
John McCain sees the need to reform healthcare. He wants to make health care affordable without limiting choices, meaning Americans can look for healthcare providers and insurance companies nationwide. He also believes that the men and women who have served our country should have the freedom to carry their VA dollars to providers who offer “timely, high quality care”. I agree with his position to offer safer, more affordable generic versions of drugs while still maintaining the safety of those drugs. Too many Americans are forced to choose between the medications they need to survive and heating their home or paying their rents/mortgages. Senator McCain believes Americans deserve both and he believes providing tax breaks/credits of $2,500 per person or $5,000 per family will help to achieve this.
In America today we are faced with the sad reality of a war on terror. We must decide now who we believe will keep that war from being fought of American soil. John McCain’s dedication, and commitment to America began well before his campaign to become president. His experience in the congress and the military is key to succeeding in securing our borders and protecting us from those who wish to do us harm. His strong moral character is vital to the direction America is going in. We need a leader who will fight for the needs of the citizens and not the needs of the government. We need a leader who will stand up and fight for our security, our health care, our history and culture, the rights and freedoms of all Americans. I urge you to join me in electing John McCain as the next President of our country, the United States of America.
