hi everybody..  I had my surgery (lap rny) Feb. 1st.  My heighest weight was 311, and that was the week before surgery. On surgery day i was 302. My current weight is 282. Thats a loss of 29lbs. I havent lost a single pound in over a week...i exercise every day. i do cardio for atleast half an hour and do some work with some free weights. Im starting to think im not doing something right..or something is wrong..any ideas why i havent lost weight? i realize i cant lose 15lbs  every week, but i feel like i should have lost SOMETHING in over a week. Any thoughts??  Thanks,  Laci

Your body is still recovering, don't freak yet =)  Check your measurements.  Often people lose inches when the scale doesn't move, and vice versa.  Is it around your "monthly" time?  Some people find that they stall for a week or two and after their period they drop like 8-10 lbs out of nowhere.  Just make sure you're getting in your fluids, protein, enough calories (don't starve yourself or your metabolism will go into starvation mode) and you'll see it move soon.  If you're not walking or doing a little exercise, try to add some. It'll work for you, just give your body time to catch up!  =)

lol I'm sorry I wish I could be of more help!  Unfortunately our bodies rarely cooperate when we want them to.  All I can tell you is the main board has posts like this ALL the time so I know you're not alone.  Do try to make sure you're hitting your calories every day though ESPECIALLY since you're exercising daily.  Your body will hold on to EVERYTHING if it thinks you're not feeding it enough.  Best wishes!

You should be striving to meet you nutritional goals each and every day - you also want to make sure you are eating consistant... you dont want to eat 800 calories one day then only 500 the next - your calories should vary only around 50-100 each day - so if your goal is 800, no lower than 700, no higher than 900. You will not lose weight each week - many times when the scale stops the inches will move. So what you are expericing is very normal. The surgery is more than just what the scale says - how do you feel? off any meds? any medical conditions improve? clothes getting too big? You have to look at the whole picture and not just rely on the scale - that will drive you insane. Be patient and know the scale will move again, stay focused on the IMPORTANT things like protein, water, exercise, suppliments and teaching yourself the habits you will need to stay successful for LIFE.

You  might want to try doing a comparison on a scale that measures fat and lean mass. (TANITA) You may be losing fat mass, but gaining lean muscle because of working out so much. Don't worry about the scale right now. Just worry about continuing the exercise and soon the fat will melt off.

That's normal! Your body is still in shock. It will take awhile for all the pounds to come off (dont you wish you could get up and they would just fall off!?! I DO!) 15 pounds in great, just think of that (your doing a wicked good job) Keep up the good work! ~Jen

You got some good advice already - your body needs time to catch up, stalls are natural, you must eat enough of the right calories consistently so your body CAN lose weight, and sometimes, when you're not losing pounds you should look at inches.  How do your clothes feel?  Are any of your comorbities resolved?  What is your energy level like?  Those are measures of success as well.  The weight loss will start up again.  Just keep doing what you know you need to do and your tool will work for you. Oh and btw - CONGRATULATIONS on the 29 pound loss!  That's awesome!
