Thanks for everyones nice words while I was pre-op.My surgery went fantastic, and my surgeon / everyone at the hospital were super nice to me and made my pain seem like nothing. I had a problem peeing my last night there, so they had to put a cathader on me (NOT A GOOD FEELING WHILE AWAKE!!) and then once I got home I was able to go like nothing. I already feel like I have lost some weight, or maybe it s just in my head. It sucks having to get my wound packing changed 2 times a day, it hurts but it could be worse, and theres also like 5 staples on the outside of my belly with big band-aids over them. I have a somewhat general question about insurance. I am currently covered on my dads plan, it is without a doubt the best insurance, no co-pays, no referalls, nothing at all. No cost prescriptions, etc. I turn 23 in April and will have to go on my own health insurance, which isn't that bad, it's about 80.00 a month for dental, vision, and aetna health. My question is this. Is there any way to stay on my dads insurance since I am stil in college, and do not plan on graduating until the spring of 2009. People have told me that I am eligible until I turn 24, but my dad keeps insisting its when I am 23. Only reason I am concerned, is if i need more meds or anything unforseeable happens down the line.  Other then that, Im feelin good!!!

Welcome home and to the loser's bench! I'd always heard it was to age 24 if in college BUT every insurance is different.  Your dad's could very well be 23? Best wishes for a quick painless recovery!

Welcome home!!!!!!! For me, as long as I have a full load at school (12 units) I'm still with my parents' insurance.

Hey there!!!  Good to hear from you!!!  So glad everything went well!!!!  I am pretty sure that even though I am a full-time graduate student I was still kicked off my parent's insurance when I turned 23....or maybe 24.

Glad to hear everything went well. Hope your up and about soon. As far as insurance I didn't get kicked off till I was 24. I know my insurance would have kept me on till I was 25 since I was in college, but since the insurance was under my moms name and she passed away when I was 24 I got kicked off.

Who should I contact at the insurance company? or should I even contact someone at the school

You should contact the insurance company and ask them directly.  The school isn't going to know necessarily about your specific insurance company/plan and it will probably differ plan to plan.  There should be a help line on the back of your card, and I would start there.  When you talk to people at the insurance co write down who you talk to, when and what they say (insurance companies are tricky little buggers).   Whatever you find out - you DO NOT want to let your insurance lapse.  Say you do lose your coverage under your dad when you turn 23, you MUST get picked up by another company in less than 62 days (don't ask me why, but that is the magic number) or else your next insurer does not have to cover WLS related expenses.  However if you do you coverage within 62 days you will get something called a "certificate of credible coverage" from your former insurance company that says to your new insurance company that you had insurance when you had the WLS and since you didn't go long without coverage the new plan has to cover WLS related expenses.  If you wait too long to get insurance, you won't get a certificate, and that means your new insurance co does not have to pay for follow-up appointments with your surgeon, annual blood work and any complications you may develop (God forbid you develop any).  So - point is - DO NOT LET INSURANCE LAPSE - now or ever - because if you have WLS related expenses down the road you do not want to be left footing the bill and trust me, insurance companies are mostly blood suckers who will do whatever they can to not pay for your medical expenses.   Now, having said all that - CONGRATS on your surgery and I'm glad to hear you're doing well.  Get up walking as best you can and remember to keep sipping!  I hope you're all recovered soon! Welcome to the loser's bench!

I contacted the insurance company, and they told me that when I turn 23 i can call back because it qualifies as a "life change" or somthing like that. My dad told me to call back and start coverage 2 weeks before my birthday, which i think is a great idea.
