My doctor says after eating wait 1 1/2 hours to drink.   I just wanted to know how long do others wait to drink??

Jeez... that is a really long time to wait IMO - do you have to wait before as well?? I am to wait 30 minutes before and after.

The same with me...30 min before and 30 min after...The point of waiting is to allow the food to stay in the pouch longer and make you feel fuller for a longer time but waiting that long seem that It would make it hard to get your liquids in IMO...

I am personally going off of a "take 45 mins to eat something, wait an hour, drink 10 oz water, wait an hour, eat again, etc"  Like I said before, I did awful yesterday but it seems to be working today.  I am sure 30 mins would be sufficient too.  I know they just don't want you drinking WITH meals.

I don't see how it is possible to get all of your liquids in if you are waiting 1 1/2 hours.  My surgeon has me wait 1/2 hour after eating - IMO that is enough time.

I thought that 1 1/2 hours was a little excessive as well, that is why I posted, just to get an idea of others.  I think I will wait about 30 minutes instead and see how that works for me.  Thanks!

30 minutes before and after for me...but don't stray from your doctor's guidelines just yet....maybe he uses a different surgical technique or has another good reason for different guidelines....if you're real concerned about it, give his office a call and discuss it...

I was told no liquids 30 minutes prior to eating and then 1 hour after. On top of the feeling full longer part, the added liquid makes it harder for the pouch to digest the food since the digestive juices would then be diluted. By letting the pouch have that hour before any extra fluid is introduced, you're letting your system process the food much more efficiently.

I've actually been practicing this way of eating/drinking for several years now. I find that you need to be mindful of getting in plenty of liquids within the time period allowed prior to your meal and you need to eat foods that have their own liquid content in them such as tomatoes or other veggies like that. If you do that you won't feel as eager to want to drink something.
