My mom's questions...
Hello, I'm a new member here waiting on an approval or rejection letter from insurance. I'm 18 and have been overweight all my life. I have borderline diabetes (since age 14) and developing high-blood pressure, and a family history of both. My BMI at my check-up was 40.9 but since has dropped to 38.8. I'm still thinking about having surgery, because I know it's the only way I can get healthy.
My mother underwent WLS this past November. Due to health complications she has been unable to do the suggested exercises, even so, her weight has dropped from 274 to to 223. She also wants me to ask a couple questions for her (please tell me if I should post somewhere else about this).
1. Has anyone else developed gout after surgery, if so what should she do?
2. Has anyone with psoriasis seen improvement after surgery?
3. Does arthritis get better after surgery?
Hey Catherine! Welcome to the 20's board.
I am not sure about the gout thing, I haven't heard of it happening but that doesn't mean it hasn't. Psoriasis though, I have psoriasis on my legs and it is still about the same as it was pre-op. I have heard several times on the main board about arthritis getting better post-op, and that makes sense, since the weight loss would take a lot of pressure off of your joints. The main board might have more folks with experience with this. Good luck!
