Howdy 20 somethings!

Dinner made me sick...blech.  I had some shrimp and steamed broccoli, carrots and cauliflower with a melted cube of velveeta...not sure what was the culprit - could have been the shrimp (has happened in the past), could have been that the veggies were not steamed enough (has been known to happen...) and it also could have been the velveeta.  At any rate I feel icky and I don't like it!  So, tell me, what'd you eat today?  Here's what I had until this point... 7:30 - 4 oz espresso, 6 oz steamed skim milk, 1 oz sf davinci vanilla syrup 8 oz orange juice w/ 6 oz magnesium citrate...don't ask 10 - Ka****LC honey almond flax granola bar 20 oz water 1pm - The insides of 1/2 a chicken quesadilla w/ a spoonful of rice 20 oz water 4pm - 1/2 cup of garlic and chive FRESH cheese curds (you non-Wisconsonites will not understand, but fresh cheese curds mean they sqeak when you chew them and these are DIVINE with the garlic and chive - YUM)  20 oz water 7pm - 3 steamed shrimp w/ a little bit of lemon juice, 1 broccoli flaurette, 1 cauliflower flaurette, 2 medallions of carrots w/ a little bit of velveeta melted on top -  EDITED TO ADD - Around 10pm a handful (1/2 a cup approximately) of Parmesan and Garlic Cheez-its.  and now I feel like CR&P.  Ick.  Someone please tell my pouch that shrimp and veggies with a little bit of cheese are GOOD for me, so they should not make me feel ICKY!  Hope it is going better out there!

Hi Amy!  Sorry the dinner made you feel icky.  Hopefully it will pass quickly. :(  Also props for getting down the magnesium citrate.  The thought of the taste of that stuff makes me almost vomit.  But when you need it, it works! B - 3/4 weight smart oatmeal (i don't know why I keep eating this, i kind of hate it but at least I am almost done with the box I have) S - two dunkin donuts munchkins, mmmm soo good and hadn't had one in SO long! L - chicken breast, goat cheese and spinach in low carb tortilla S - nonfat chai latte w/splenda (my new indulgence, i love love love chais) D - more chicken breast, stir fried with snow peas, edamame, water chestnuts and bean sprouts, some teriyaki sauce Overall a pretty good day.  Could have done without the munchkins of course but they were worth it! P.S. Your dinner reminds me of something weird I saw the other day.  I was walking my parent's dog and I saw littered in the park two heads of cauliflower and one head of broccoli.  How weird to be littering vegetables!

I mix the magnesium citrate with orange juice to make it more bearable.  It actually isn't too awful, kind of like strong sprite or something.   I wonder who was tossing out veggies...lol...must have been some kid going through an anti-rouphage kick.  lol

Sometimes when I am getting more than normal amounts of carbs I actually feel hungry.  Carbs make you want more carbs.  They spike your blood sugar and then cra**** so you feel hungry again sooner.  If you're having a lot of hunger, try more dense protien or complex carbs mixed with either fats or protien.  For example - if you have an apple, put some natural peanut butter on it or have a couple slices of cheese with it.  With your yogurt mix in some kashi high protien cereal.  With the fat and/or protien the carbs are absorbed slower, so you get a more even blood sugar rise and fall.  Hope that helps!

It does help Thanks Amy! It is very rare for me to feel hunger...I am usually good about eating something (good) every few hours especially at work...but with me getting up earlier I think I just threw my system...but oh well it will get used to it right? (It better!! **whip cracking***) LOL

A lot of times when you start upping your workout your body will *need* more to eat and thats why you could have been feeling hungry. My suggestion to you would be if you are going to work out in the morning you need more of a hearty breakfast... you had a shake (liquidy) and yogurt (liquidy****il lunch time so nothing really 'stuck' in your pouch. Try doing a more balanced breakfast that has protein, a little fat and a little carbs - something like an egg, turkey bacon and whole wheat wrap... or on a whole wheat english muffin half... this should help your muscles 'recover' from your workout as well as keep you from feeling so hungry all day. A protein bar would be another good choice too. Eating carbs doesnt always make you want more carbs..... eating processed refined carbs are the ones that cause the blood sugar to spike/crash and leave you wanting more (stick to low glycemic index foods) - you want to eat whole grain, non-enriched, non processed carbs. You want to get the majority of your carbs from fruits, veggies, dairy - I see a lack of both fruits and veggies in your diet - the fiber in them will help keep you fuller longer (if you are allowed them, I know many surgeons put restrictions) and add some bulk to your food since you are eating a lot of 'slider foods'... I know smart ones are convenient but they are refined carbs due to the bleached wheat pasta - youd be better off switching to something else or making your own 'smart ones' at home with whole grain pasta :-) I would work on getting more 'bulky' foods in your diet and less slider foods... work towards getting your meals to be protein first, then veggie, then fruit, lastly starch carb.
