Yes, yes, I am one of the many girls that pay for fingernails!  Does anyone know if they have to come off prior to surgery?  I forgot to ask!

Im pretty sure they do. I had to ahve all jewlery, fake nails, ect removed. Also I couldn't have any lotions applied the day of my surgery. Although we could wear deodarant. I would call your surgeon and find out so you have time to remove them if you must.

From what I remember I couldn't even have nail polish of any kind on my nails....sorry, but they will most likely have to go!!!  But, as soon as you're feeling better you can go pamper yourself with a manicure!!!!!

I'm guessing this is pretty standard with most surgeons but mine required nail polish on both feet and hands removed along with if you had artifical nails. Just to make sure though-- call your surgeon. No need to waste money removing them. ~*Zandra*~

Every surgeon is different, mine didn't have any rules like this.  I actually got a pedicure the day before surgery.  I didn't want the nurses to have to look at raunchy toes.  Also I figured my upper body would look like crap the first couple days so at least my feet would look nice!  So both my finger and toenails were painted and it was no problem.

I'll check with my surgeon. I figured they would.  I almost got a new set this weekend, and thought, oh I would hate to have to remove them!!  I will hopefully be able to have a french on my toes!

I think the reason some surgeons have a no polish policy is because coloration of the nail beds is used to gauge oxygen levels in the blood.  I think I saw that on House.  So... maybe.  *grins* helen
