Sleep Study?

My surgeon is still a nice guy and he looks alot better after having the Lap- Band himself. He said I was a good candidate for the surgery and that my next step is to go to the internal medicine doc to get cleared. He also said looking at my paperwork to not be suprised if I need a sleep study. I know it is to watch out for sleep apnea. Do they literally watch you sleep? lol I am just curious even though I don't know if I will have to have it or not. My appointment with the doc is on the 25th then when I get cleared I will get a date! YAE!

haha sleep studies are interesting... they do actually watch you sleep.  When i did mine, they had a camera on the wall it wasnt really that noticable, but it was there and they used an intercom to talk to me and they said like move your foot and i did and they saw me do it.  It was really weird i had to get one just because they required me to get it for surgery.  Good luck on your journey and keep us posted!

Thank you. A camera in the wall huh? Does sound weird but if it has to be done I will do it.

I had obstructive sleep apnea for years and my sleep study was textbook...I was having 45 interruptions in an hour they had to wake me up and fit me for a mask that same night...They do watch you sleep my nurse tech was a very handsome guy...how utterly embarrasing...but he was so sweet...anyways it is difficult but will make a great change in your life if you do indeed have sleep apnea...

I don't know EXACTLY what sleep apnea really is. My husband has had to nudge me to "get me going" again. And if I lay on my back I make a weird chokey sound, so I never sleep on my back. If I do have to do a sleep study it will be embaressing to know they are hearing me snoring. lol Thanks for the input.

my sleep study was okay, i had a nice girl who made it comfy to talk too, we were shooting the sh*t about other things, and she was intrested about wls, it was funny because she told me she was looking at my file and it said refered for clearence for gastric bypass for morbid obesity..she said she thought i would be huge (well to me i am) she said dang you are smaller then me.. anyways here how it went...go to the sleep lab, do a little bit of paper work, then get you to your room, then watch a short video of whats going to happen. watched a little bit of tv, then she came in and hooked me up to all these wires stuff up my nose, on my legs, on my head, a belt around your chest, an o2 senseor on your finger. then i took an ambien and a adavant (relaxing pills) none of these were provided for me, i had to bring them, then she goes into another room and she talks to you through a speaker com and says stuff like blink, move your leg, hold your breath for 30 secs..then you wake up...i asked her how i did, she told me that she wasnt a dr and couldnt, but i told her come on i know you have seen enough you know, just tell me off the record..lol and she did. it was a weird but pleasent expierence. well they made me come back becuase anything after a 4 on some kind of level chart you have to go back with the c pap, well i had a 4.2. i had the same lady and she prepared me by telling me dont be surprised if you get a c-pap, she informed me that she has never seen anyone not do better with the cpap. she let me try all the masks on, then we did everything we did in the previous session, i took my pills and went to sleep.  oh yea they do have a video camera that is fixed on you that can be seen by them, i told her my concerns, and she told me that she doesnt even look at it, unless her monitor starts showing that i stopped breathing ori moved, or the wire came undone or  what not, because she has to log it on the computer why her computer showed a variation of different levels. anywyas good luck

Thanks for all the details. Doesn't sound so intrusive now. Do they have a problem with you bringing your own sleeping pill? I'm a very light sleeper. All my husband has to do is stare at me and I wake up cause I can feel him staring. How long do they let you sleep for?

my place didnt have any problems, so place even provide them for you, but if you ahve them bring them with you, i have insomina and they wanted me sleeping by 10, so there would have been no way i could have slept or fallen aslepp without those drugs.
