Hmm, interesting...they never mention my surgery (duodenal switch)!!! :( I also love how almost every single person equates what they can eat to a cheeseburger and fries....making it seem like after surgery you can still eat that stuff...I mean, you CAN...just not the best choice and not what I'd say the majority of us do on a daily basis!!!  Oprah oprah oprah, always taking the negative side of weight loss surgery....did you watch the preview for "Suddenly Skinny" about the transfer addictions????  I talked to my friend who is the life coach who helped me before and after surgery and she said that the rate of addiction is the same in the general population as it is for WLS patients.

I said the other day that people who cop an attitude about younger people getting WLS is the thing that get to me the most when it comes to WLS....yeah...Oprah is not on my happy list right now. And I noticed that too - about the hamburger and fries thing - I really, really, really hope that is not what they are eating on a consistent basis!

Holy crap, I turn the TV on and I see Dr. Phil talking to a lady who had gastric bypass, and he offers to provide her a circumfrential body lift and her arms done - damn, I don't care what they say about that guy - he's alright!

I saw that one!  I could kiss him for that!  The woman on his show didn't just have some pesky hanging skin - she had seriously, debilitating excess skin that was interfering with her life.  Dr. Phil is a HERO for helping her out.  YAY DR. PHIL!

So why are they comparing what they can eat to JUNK FOOD!!!!  How about I can eat 3 oz of chicken and some broccoli florets hold the cheese sauce... How aggravating... yeah for Dr. Phil!

hey all, so i saw the majority of the show, and i think when they were talking about cheeseburger and fries it gives people a good example, just because like we all know before we could eat a whole burger and all the fries.  so saying they can have 1/2 a buger and a few fries help people see the amount of food. when my mom watched it, that example did open her eyes more to the idea of what ill be able to eat once i have some saline in my band. So yea i hope they dont eat those everyday but it does give people who dont know alot about the sugery a better idea of how much we can eat. But what i didnt like about the show was that at the end she had a girl who lost 100lbs on her own and like good for her but oprah was like omg you are such an inspriation! and i was like wtf, you have these people on the show who are in my opinion are wonderful inspirations to us because they made thier surgeries work, which at times can be difficult especially at a young age.

I see your point about the burger and fries - I just think it gives the wrong impression, like we can eat whatever we want, just in smaller amounts, and expect to lose weight. And the worst part about the show is exactly what you pointed out - that she treated the other people like crap after the girl who lost it "on her own" - "the hard way" came out.  That made me feel sick for them (and for myself).  I am disappointed with Oprah yet again for her constant down playing of the efforts people have to go through as post-ops to lose weight...*sigh*...we'll just have to see how the girl who "lost it on her own" is doing in 10 years.

Yea its not something oprah should have had in her show... if it was about teens and wls she should have kept the other girl off the show. i dont think it was respectable for the teens who had the surgery.  And yea they could have used the example... then said they dont eat it all the time and gave a good example of the type of foods they eat more... and i dont know if they did or not bc i saw it half way through.
