This is the first time since surgery I'm feeling really really sick, not surgery related....I have a sore throat, chest is tight and wheezy, voice gone....I'm going to go to Urgent Care today but was curious about taking antibiotics....it's okay to take them right???

I've taken Cipro and Levequin -  both anti-biotics - since surgery and been fine. Of course, mention your surgery to your doc so they can take that into consideration when choosing what to give you - if they give you anything at all....one thing I have heard is that slow-release or continuous release pills are not right for us because they need to sit in your stomach and be slowly dissolved by stomach acid to work right, because of the different plumbing with us, this doesn't work right...they're are also certain types of drugs we're supposed to stear clear of like NSAIDS....

As long as they aren't slow release you should be fine.  The one thing that might make a difference is absorbtion.  We cannot be completely sure that we absorb as much of the medicine that we need (isn't absorbtion a bigger issue with DS?...I could be wrong but that is what I thought...) so if you end up needing antibiotics you might have to take more than one round for things to clear up.  I hope you're feeling better soon!
