OOoook.  First, let me just say that I promise that this will never pass.  It is unconstitutional on several levels and there are about 50 human rights organizations that would be all over Mississippi in about 2 seconds if the legislature were deranged enough to actually pass this....now...I'm going to play devil's advocate for a minute..... This is a shocker type bill with the intention of bringing attention to a really bad situation.  Mississippi is the state with the highest percentage of obese people per capita.  That isn't a contest anyone wants to win.  I think (and have read elsewhere) that the guy behind this bill is just trying to bring attention to the situation and maybe motivate the Mississippi legislature to do SOMETHING proactive in helping the situation (like getting soda vending machines out of schools, re-working what is served in public schools so the kids of Mississippi are getting at least one balanced meal a day, offering inscentives for people to join community health initiatives, setting standards for what kind of food can be purchased with food stamps - so the government isn't going to pay for cheeto's and twinkies when it should be buying lean meats and veggies -, offering businesses financial inscentive to offer employees gym memberships..stuff like that).   Now, I'm not a fan of nanny-type-government, but I think that something has to happen.  We are the first generation that has a shorter life expectancy than our parents.  That is wrong.  So if this gets the ball rolling...well...that's something.
