Hey!  I just wanted to take a sec and introduce myself.  I am Shannon, and just got my approval from my insurance on Wednesday.  I had to do a 6month preop diet, see the Psych, and the Nut before my insurance would even let me see my surgeon.  So I have my consultation this next Wednesday.  I am SOOO excited!  It took from October until now to get the approval.  The worst part was getting my 5 year weight history.  It's all good now though!!  So I have been hanging out on the Oklahoma forum, and realized that most of them are quite a bit older than me (not that its a problem), but I didnt really have mu*****ommon with them.  I found this one, and hopefully this will be better!  So how long did it take some of you to have the surgery scheduled after the approval and doc. visits?  Also, how long were you off work right after surgery?  Thanks!

Welcome to the group!! My process went as so - saw the surgeon in Sept 2005. Info sent to insurance Jan 2006... went thru the denial/appeals process and got approval in April 2006. My surgeon was very booked at the time and my surgery was scheduled in June 2006 - so 9 months from beginning to end.  I had surgery on a tuesday, out of the hospital thursday and back to work monday. First week post-op I worked 9-2, the 2nd week I worked my normal 8-5 schdl. I work at desk job that requires no lifting. Honestly could have used the first week off and that was it, two weeks at home would have driven me insane. I found being at work it made it easier to focus on protein/water and I really slacked at home because I would lay around watching TV and sleeping!

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)

Extended TT, lipo, fat injections - 11/2011

BA/BL/Arm Lift - 7/2014

Scar revision on arms - 3/2015

Hey Shannon! Welcome to the 20's board. They are a GREAT group of people and a wonderful support system. I cannot answer any of your questions about post-op things because I am still pre-op (I am currently having to do the 6 month diet as well...I have only 2 visits left...YEAH!!!) but I am sure someone will have some answers for you. Feel free to ask as many questions as you need. This board is full of knowledge. I was posting on the Texas board once I joined OH and just not too long ago found this board and I LOVE it! It's so much easier to relate. SO WELCOME!!!

My process was a little different than yours but i'll share it with ya :) April 07 husband and i talked about my desire to have surgery April 07 I talked to my doctor about surgery she thought it was a good idea for me May 07 My doctor refered me to hurley bariatric in Flint June, July 07 Process of getting paperwork and 5 year medical history August 06, 07 I got approved and was scheduled for 9/18 August 24, 07 My surgery date got moved up from the 18th to the 11th September 11th 07 surgery went off with out a hickup!! My surgeons office requires post op psych visits so i still do that every 3 weeks, its awesome though we talk about everything not just food related. As far as how long i was off, I had my surgery done laproscopically and the 11th was a tuesday, and i was back to school on the 24th of September which was a day shy of 2 weeks. Good luck and congrats on your approval

Welcome to the board Shannon! My surgery was roughly a week after I got all my stuff together and done. I would have gone back to work around the third week, had I been working at the time :)

The more things the change, the more they're still the same.

Welcome to the 20's! I know what you mean, my group sessions with my drs office were all older people they were nice and all but when i would ask a "young" person question they would all look at me like i was a weird 20year old. haha, But this board is great. For my surgery I first met with my Psy. in september, and had to see 5 different doctors at least 2 then i got my surgery schedueled and I got it scheduled for Jan so it took me about 6 months from beginning to end.  For work i took a week and a half off... i work at a bakery so there is alot of heavy lifting involved, but once i was back i just took it easy and my boss did cut my hours a little so i wouldnt over do it.  But just know that if u get tired at work take a break and sit down dont over do it because it will cause problems with you over do it.

Ciao

Welcome to the 20's board! I had surgery just less than 11 months after I started the process.  I had some trouble scheduling all the appointments or it would have been sooner.  But as soon as I had everything submitted to my surgeon and my insurance company it took less than 2 months until my surgery (and that was mostly due to MY schedule, or it could have been sooner).  I hope your wait isn't long! I was (still am) a full time college student when I had my surgery, I was ready to get back to class in just a couple weeks, but being a student doesn't require a lot of physical activity other than walking around.  Talk to your surgeon about what he/she would recomend depending on what you do at your job.  It is a big change after surgery, so I think you need some time just to get used to things and let your body adapt.    I wish you the best!

Welcome to the board.... My journey started in october 2006 went I went to the seminar at Duke WLS. My first appointment was scheduled tne next week for the middle of december. During that time I had all my tests done. I failed my pulmonary function test so they referred me to a pulmonologist for evaluation and clearance. In January I saw him and he cleared me but suggested I probably had sleep apnea. So, the following week I was sent for a sleep study. The result was positive and I was given a cpap and cleared for surgery. The next step was insurance submital which happened around the beginning of last february. Three weeks later I was approved and I was given the date of March 29th.....I had my laproscopic RNY that day stayed in the hospital for three nights and was ready to go about a week or so after that. How long depends though on what you do, your particular surgery. how your body reactsto the anastesia (the results of which linger in your body for up to a month) and of course any complications...
