Favorite Post-op Foods Survey....

Now this is a post-op food survey, so I want to hear the GOOD HEALTHY things you use as go-to foods when you need something to eat.  So, for example, is there a protien powder that you would consume just because you like it?  Are there protien bars out there that satisfy your sweet tooth without ruining your whole nutrition for the day?  What meals / snacks / drinks have you invented / altered to help you eat healthy as a post-op?  Treat this like a product review.  Give us nutritional stats if you have them (like cals, carbs, protien, fat - stuff like that).  Or recipes if we have to make it ourselves.  Let's hear em' because Inquiring minds want to know!

Well, I'll get you started.... On the Go Stand-bys.... 1.  Ka****LC Honey Almond Flax granola bars (7g protien, 140 calories, 5g sugar - natural sugar per bar) 2.  Planter's Dry Roasted Peanuts (8g protien, 170 calories, 2g sugar per 1 oz serving) 3.  Oh Boy Oberto Beef Jerky (11g protien, 80 calories, 5g sugar, per 1 oz serving) 4. Horizon Organic Colby Cheese Sticks (7g protien, 110 calories, 0g sugar per stick) 5.  Pepperoni Slices, provalone cheese and cracked wheat crackers - (it'll all depend on which brand of everything you decide to use...) 6.  Bacon wrapped waterchestnuts (what you'll need - a can of whole waterchestnuts, a pkg of bacon strips, and tooth picks.  Cut the bacon strips in half, and wrap 1/2 of a bacon strip around each waterchestnut and hold the bacon closed with a tooth pick.  Put them in a cake pan and cook them at 350 degrees for 20 minutes-ish - when the bacon is crispy.  I make a big batch and then heat up 3-5 of them for easy snacks throughout the week - for 3 of them they are 6.5g of protien, 6g carbs, 130 calories - ish) Your turn!

1.Horizon organic 2% milk.  I discovered this when I was having cravings for chocolate milk, my favorite pre-op treat, and I always drank this brand. I tried the 2% as a replacement, and it is soooo good. It has a sweet taste to it.   Per Cup: 100 cals, 2.5g fat, 12g sugar, 8g protien 2. Lime and cajun grilled chicken, and shrimp-sorry no recipes or nutritional info 3. Mango Yogurt: my own recipe very good, but if you dump on sweet fruits you might want to avoid this one 1 single serving(4-8oz) container fat free plain yougurt 1/2 very ripe mango Put all together in a blender and blend untill smooth also makes a really good dip for fruit, and even whole wheat crackers.

I've also really come to like kay's naturals protein chips. Here are some of my favorite things lately... 1.  TURKEY MEATBALLS with salt, pepper, and bbq sauce...sooooo good and loaded with protein 2.  String cheese  (6 grams protein, low carb) 4.  Power Crunch protein bars....like candy and awesome for the sweet tooth but lower in carbs than most (10 grams of carbs, 18 grams of protein) 5.  Boca Chicken patties with spicy mustard 6.   I also buy a lot of mini-steaks and cook them up with garlic, olive oil, and other spices....steak has been my craving since surgery...I LOVE IT!!!! That's all I can really think of right now....

You can get Boca Patties at any grocery store in the freezer section...I like the chicken patties the best with spicy mustard, but the burgers are pretty good too...better if you cook them in a skillet so they get a little crispier, but okay in the microwave too if you're short on time.   As for the turkey meatballs, they are Foster Farms brand and are Italian style.  They are already fully cooked but in the freezer section and you just pop them in the microwave for a few minutes.  I use just a little bbq sauce on them...you could use mustard too to avoid the sugar, but with my surgery sugar doesn't bother me. I don't know where I'd be without my meat.... ;) I do love my eggs too...smothered in Franks Red Hot sauce!!!  :)
