Let's Try This Again - Eatin' Good in the 20's Neighborhood

It has been a while, but I'm looking at all the activity on the board and I think we should try this again.  It worked for a couple weeks back in July-August, so hopefully we can get 'er going again.  For those that don't remember - this is an accountabilty exercise.  There is a thread like this that runs on the Main Board too. To keep myself on trac****ep a food journal and enter everything in at fitday.com (a VERY cool online tool for diet tracking that helps you keep tabs on your caloric intake - breaks down carbs, protien and fat content too!).  My food journal is the reason I think I was able to hit goal.   If enough folks are interested I'll come over *everyday* (if at all possible with my small brain and attention span) and start a thread where whomever feels like it can chime in with what they ate today.  Not only is this cool for accountability purposes, but it also gives pre-ops and folks earlier post-op an idea of what they will be eating when they get further out.  For those of us further post-op, we can get ideas from each other of foods to try.  I don't know about everyone else, but I get on these kicks where I eat the same 6 things over and over and over.  There will be good days, bad days and eh days, but at the very least this is a chance to get to know people. If you don't keep track of food - this is your chance (and motivation) to start (new year resolutions anyone?).  It really helps!  If you're struggling to get the scale to move again, keeping track of what you eat is going to show you where you need to shake things up.  If you are just shooting to maintain, then share what is working for you with everyone else! Okay, on with the show....I'm on break from college until the 19th, so I'm not getting up until 9ish (soooo nice) and I'm mostly just hanging out around my apartment (which means I can cook! or not...hee hee) 10am - 3 oz espresso, 9 oz steamed skim milk, 1 oz Davinci s/f vanilla syrup 20 oz water Noon -   9 slices pepperoni, 3 deli slices of provalone cheese, 3 cracked wheat crackers 20 oz water 3pm - 3/4 cup Mini Ravioli's in meat/tomato sauce 20 oz water 5:30pm - Chicken Stir fry (5 oz  mixture of chicken thigh fillet, green/red peppers, onions, broccoli, and mushrooms sautee'd in dry Italian dressing w/ olive oil - served over 1/3 cup rice noodles - I couldn't finish the whole thing) 12 oz water 8pm - 1/2 cup mixed nuts (peanuts, almonds, macadamias and cashews) And now I'm working on another 12 oz cup of water.  I've been dehydrated so I'm trying to up my water.   That puts me at 1200 calories, 76 grams of protien, 90 grams of carbs and close to 80 oz of water.   Not too shabby for someone trying to maintain, and for someone stuck in an apartment with M&M's.... Now - your turn!  I want to hear from you, post-op, pre-op, non-op.  Even if you don't want to go through all of the dietary stuff, just say hello.

THANK YOU so so much for replying!  I was starting to think this was all in vain... That's not bad at all.  Seriously, a spoonful of potato salad now and then won't kill you - it is when you eat a bucket of it and nothing else that it starts to be a problem.  And you made the right choice - fruit for a sweets craving is really the best thing you can do. Forcing yourself to keep track of what you're eating should help with the grazing (which is something I think all post-ops eventually have to confront).  When I go to eat something I ask myself, "do I really want to have to write down that I ate 2 handfuls of cheez-its?".  Sometimes that is enough to help me resist the urge to graze.   You done good   I was bummed to have missed you last night in the chat - next time I'll try to get there more on time.  Hopefully I'll see you in the "Eatin'" thread tonight!

I am new to this board and a little late to this post, but better late than never, right?  Anyway I love the accountability thing.  I too count and track everything but it is good to share also!  So here are my stats for yesterday: 8AM - Carnation instant breakfast w/Skim Plus milk 12PM - 1/2 tortilla pizza (low-carb tortilla, mozzarella, ham, pesto) 4PM - other 1/2 pizza 7PM - Chili w/turkey meat 9PM - SF jello pudding For a grand total of 816 calories and 70 grams protein.  I even got my 64oz water in too!

Thanks for joining in!  First, welcome to the board and I hope you find yourself at home.  That is a good food day if I do say so.  I'm glad you decided to join the thread and I hope you'll chime in again tonight.

I am still pre-op but I have to write down my food intake for my 6-month diet. I've had to journal my food in the past for Weigh****chers and it kinda sucked but it's not so bad this time around.  B: Protein Shake at 5:30 before hitting the gym (1 scoop of Muscle Milk Light Chocolate Mint and 12 oz. of Fat Free Milk) Mid-morning snack: Leftover Caesar salad and Pasta salad and a zucchini muffin from Cafe Max (it's a very odd snack but it was leftover from my lunch the previous day and it was taunting me to eat it...lol. It's so good though and I don't even like lettuce) L: Leftover dinner from the night before....Stir Fry with Flank Steak Strips. 2 oz. of flank steak, green red and yellow bell peppers, purple onion, mushrooms, bean sprouts, fresh jalapenos stir fried in a wok with a little EVOO and soy sauce, served with 1/2 cup brown rice and 1 whole flax seed pita Mid-afternoon snack: Weigh****chers Amaretto Cheesecake Yogurt with 12 Blue Diamond Cinnamon & Brown Sugar Almonds Dinner: Turkey Burger (4 oz. turkey patty, 70 calorie Nature's Own Honey Wheat Bun, one slice of American cheese, 2 oz. Barbeque Sauce), sweet potato fries (10 fries) and 2/3 cup of corn, 1/2 glass of White Zinfandel After-dinner Snack: 100 calorie pack of Pepperidge Farms cookies Drank 102 oz. of water over the course of the day.  Total Calories: 1,692.5

I just had my gall bladder out friday so I am on a limited diet... and limited to only walking :-( on the 21st I am going to food log for 2 weeks and am starting this 6 week exercise program I printed out from MSN fitness... my goal is to hit 145lbs by my birthday in Feb so that gives me a 4 weeks to get there. My diet is so blah because of the GB surgery... I am to stick to mostly liquids/mushy... I ventured and ate a salad and it was SOOOOO good - I had SUCH trouble with roughage before I had my GB out (once it started to act up). Of course carbs process just fine so I have been eating quite a bit of those lately to make up for my lack of fruits/veggies. B - 3/4cu kellogs protein plus cereal  2-3oz skim milk L - 1/2 a microwave thingie of Campbells veggie alphabet soup, 4 saltine crackers, applesauce (sweetened w/splenda) S - few bites of the BFs baked doritos, slice of RF cheese D - leftovers... salad (spinach, spring mix salad, cukes, carrots, broccoli slaw, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, FF dressing) 1/2cu pasta, 1/2 a meatball, homemade meat sauce and a garlic roll D - two, yes twwwwwwo SF lifesaver popscicles and a few bites of kettle corn mini rice cakes Ive been eating a lot at night because it hurts to eat at work... I am so bloated from the surgery my pants are killing me - I live to go home and put on my pjs... also sitting up makes my stomach area tight so after a few bites I am done.. then I piggie out at home! Looking forward to being back to 'normal' in another week or so.

I am starting to think I am HORRIBLE a****er! But I feel like I am getting in what I can take right now..I guess it will get better :-/ Breakfast-1/4 measured cottage cheese onion pancake with 1 tablespoon LF sour cream 8 oz Carnation instant breakfast with 6gram protein powder mix in Lunch- 1/4cup cottage cheese 5 green beans 2 cooked mini carrots Dinner- 1/2 cup Campbells cheese soup a few tablespoons of cottage cheese SF applesauce I usually empty two 16.9 oz bottles of water in between with SF popcicles in there as well..so probably averaging 40-50 oz a day, I dont know...For a snack I will cut up a cold orange and put salt on it...Nice for getting more energy I feel like this is sooo bland! How do expand what I am eating in the soft food stage?! argh! Also, it takes me a LONG time to get the more solid soft foods like cheese and the pancakes...how do i deal with that?  Sorry, I guess this turned into more of a help! than a list contribution...lol
