I don;t really know. But I wanted to wish you luck.
I just live. I don;t count calories or protein. I just eat. I don;t track my water. I just drink it.
So I'm horrible at helping with this...but I wanted to wish you luck.
Hopefully others will chime in here and help you.
I have a bottle that is 20oz. I make sure I drink it by noon and then refill it and make sure to drink it by 4pm when im dont with work, then I refill it and make sure I drink it by 8pm then I drink a little more before bed. So thats at least 60oz for sure. It helps so I know where I am with the ounces.
I only eat protein when I do eat. I have never really counted out how much it is but I figure if all I eat is protein there is a good chance that I am meeting my goal. It was harder when I was on the LD because I couldnt drink milk or soy milk or lactose free milk, it made me sick. But if you can drink that stuff then you will be fine!
Good luck!
Jeeeeeeeeeeez... my surgeon said to 'just do the best you can for the first 4 weeks'... after that he said I should be able to get the protein in. The only suggestions I have... make sure you are sip sip sipping... to hit 60-80g of protein make your shakes 25-30g a piece for maximum absorption.... the protein also counts towards your liquids so you wont have to drink quiiiiite as much water.
You can also buy flavorless protein and make your own ice pops... I used crystal lite, protein powder and used those little plasti**** pop molds.. good way to get in a little crunch and some protein at the same time! You can use the flavorless protein in your yogurts and pudding as well.

That is really interesting. Sorry I can't offer much help, but I liked hearing your suggestions Jennifer. My surgery is in about a week and I've been a little nervous about getting all that in. I am definitely going to try tha****er trick and the protein ice pops sound great. This is why I love this site!

is flavorless protein powder really flavorless??
I tried GNC's unflavored protein powder and i could notice a taste. What flavorless protein do you use??
As far as getting water in i drink 2 protein shakes a day and thats 24 ounces of water and I drink one large bottle of crystal light in the morning thats 20 oz and one in the evening thats another 20oz... so thats 64oz. Some days i dont do as well and some days I do better.

It'll get easier - I promise - at 6 days post-op I doubt ANYONE is getting the recomended amount of anything except maybe pain killers. You are healing, your body is adjusting and your whole thinking about food is morphing - give yourself time. I think your provider just wants you to be TRYING as hard as you can, so keep trying, but you don't need to make yourself sick by eating or drinking more than you are comfortable with.
I'm not perfect with my protien and water but I get darn close. I do it by planning ahead and really building eating and drinking in to my day. I carry I water bottle and make a point to drink (earlier out I had trouble with cold water - so I now drink room temp water and that is much easier on my pouch, just thought I'd throw that out there). I keep a food journal where I document everything I eat and drink and when I ate/drank it. That way I can easily track calories, protien and carbs. By conciously eating, paying close attention to everything I put in my mouth, it has become much easier to reach my dietary goals. I also eat every 3 hours - making a point to have a protien heavy item at each feeding (for an early post-op this would be protien shakes if you can stomach them, broth, milk, powdered milk (during my full liquids phase post-op I drank a lot of skim milk with powdered milk stirred in to double the protien), and later cottage cheese, yogurt, refried beans and so on).
You'll get there. Just do the absolute best you can - keep trying - and you'll get there.
Amy 293/140 - AT GOAL!
Right now you are at the worst of it. Here is what I did...Don't worry about it. TRY and get everything in, but honestly in the first couple of weeks it's damn near impossible. Who called you? A surgeon or someone else. The surgeon should understand...anyone else is just someone in an office whose job it is to give you a hard time. They mean well but they are clueless.
Important point...don't ignore your goals, try and reach them. Just don't be as discouraged when you can't. It will come eventually. Good luck, the worst of it is almost over and it goes quicker than you think.
