Ok y'all...I need some advise...I'm gonna kickstart my LD by a week or two :)  But I need to know what y'all thought was the best liquids out there on the market?  My dietian said to do the Atkins drinks or the slim fast ones...but both of those taste terrible...

Do y'all know of any that are not as chalkie tasting or ...?  U know...edible?  lol  Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I recommend going down to the Vitamin Shoppe and buying all different kinds of ready to drink flavors and trying them, keep in mind though that for a lot of people, their taste changes after surgery - wierd but true....For a less chalky taste I liked Nectar brand fruit flavors, Muscle Milk - banana crame and mocha were my favorites, and Unjury brand (available online) is really good, they had a chicken broth flavor that I really liked. One word of caution, not as important just yet, but it will be soon is that many proteins can be packed with too much sugar, so pay attention when you shop watch out for sugar alchohol too, just as bad if not worse - if a protein touts that it only has x amount of NET carbs - look out! (sugar alchohol is not included in net carbs)

They told me to drink Carnation Instant Breakfast with no sugar added (its in the blue box) and it actually tasted good!  I had it for the 2 weeks before surgery and I actually looked forward to having one.  Now I dont know if thats because I was extremely hungry and didnt care what I had, but I still like it!   LOL!!   Good luck in whatever you try!

Make sure you talk to the surgeon prior to extending out your liquid diet... some surgeons prefer their patients only be on it for a certain amount of time due to the risk of dehydration and malnutrition :-)  For my 2 week liquid pre-op I had to drink the Carnation IB No Sugar Added shakes mixed with light/FF milk, lactaid or Light Soy Milk. You can check their website to see where the product is carried because only certain stores do. I reccomend the powder over the ready mixed. Post-Op I used BioChems 100% Whey Protein in Vanilla... it was good. Recently Ive had to add shakes back in (due to gall bladder issue) and I bought the Designer Whey in Vanilla and its good as well. If you are familiar with Smoothie King their low carb brand of protein is also super tasty, but a little more pricey (I forget the name). One thing Ive learned about protein shakes - you want to find one that is tolerable... really none of them taste 'great'... definately not the same as a milk shake but some are better than others!

Thanks for the info...I got my paperwork in the mail, and he has on it to start as soon as possible for the LD, start with only 1 shake, and work up to 2 shakes and at the 2 week mark prior to surgery, stay on 2 shakes a day and 1 low carb high protien meal...so i figured i'd get a jump start to get used to the flavor again...

The protein powder from Smoothie King is the Gladiator and it is 180 cals and 45g protein for a 12oz shake mixed with water.  I think I paid like $45 for my container of it.  I prefer to go to smoothie king and get them to mix it though(tastes better if I dont have to do it) and I get them to add one scoop of pineapple to the vanilla and that adds 35 cals. It comes in vanilla, strawberry and chocolate.
