Was feeling cranky today and just wanted to share.... As some of you know I have gall bladder removal surgery scheduled for Friday. I just got insurance at my job not too long ago and just skimmed over the benefits. My surgeons office sent me a letter to tell me how much I will owe for the surgery - and *drum roll* its $905... which he likes up front. Looking at my CRAPPY plan I have a $2500 deductible which of course I have met nothing of since I just started the plan. I put a call into my surgeons office to see if I can wait until January for the procedure since my deductible starts over then.... just waiting to hear back. On one hand I dont want to wait because all I can tolerate is soft/mushy/liquidy foods... but its just so much money to pay out just to possibly have to pay it out again next year *sigh* It seems when I get one medical bill paid another comes up... I have been trying to save up for PS but every time I get a little in the bank it finds a way to spend itself. To end on a happy note... I came back from Thanksgiving vacation weighing more than when I left (damn salt!) and since being back and doing the modified diet lost that weight as well as another pound. My NUT said I could go down to 145 but no lower so I only have 6 more pounds to get there!

Hey girl, I'm sorry to hear about your medical bills.  They suck, I know.  I had to pay over a thousand dollars of uncovered fees for my damn lap band, and I was swimming in debt.  It stunk.  I feel your pain.  And waiting for January is going to stink too, because like you said, you'll have to deal with the mushie diet for so much longer.

On your light note - congratulations on losing more weight.  You're success is astounding and really motivating.

My responsibility after insurance for my WLS was 1350$. I had to pay the surgeon up front $250 so that left $1100 owed to the hospital... I finally paid the hospital off in September.  I had a CT scan in August and because of issues with my old job (they didnt pay the insurance premium) BCBS backdated and cancelled my insurance back to 6/30/07 in October - this stuck me with the bill for the CT scan - came up to $3500 total for the hospital and the reading!! *sigh*. I havent even started to pay on that one yet because of the holidays!

Call the billing department at the hospital and see if they would accept the BCBS contracted rate for the services they provided.  I know for a fact that the insurance company would NOT pay $3500 for a CT scan.  Usually the hospitals will pay around 10%-20% of the bill and the provider will take a write off for the remaining balance under their contract with the insurance company.  Since you had coverage at the time of the services but the termination date was back-dated, they may be willing to work with you on this.  Good Luck!

Yeah the hospitals are usually pretty good... unfortunantly the people *****ad the CTs want their billed paid 100%!

That is true, plus they are usually not contracted with insurance companies so no write offs for them.  I am sorry you are dealing with this.  Money problems cause SO much stress.  Just know that we are here for you.  I had a really long obnoxious post about money issues and everyone has been so kind.  The support on this site makes such a difference.  So even if that is all we can offer; we are here, we care.
