I am very nervous, happy and .....scared.
Please tell me any advise you have for me.....I am getting Roux-en-y Jan 9th.
Please tell me how your experiences have gone . I would love to hear it.
My surgeon so far has had a no death rate.....so that kinda makes me feel better.
I am 22 and in healthy condition except my weight.
Were you scared when you had your surgery?
How long were you in the hospital for?
how long were you back to your usual self?

Thanks so much. I appreciate any feedback. It would be awesome.

Hi and congratulations on your upcoming surgery...i'm now 3 months out and my experiance with the surgery was wonderful...it first started with a drive to the hospital at 4am i was one of the first cases and i don't know if it was bacause it was so early but at the time i wasn't nervous or scared...lol...i guess i had done enough of that in the weeks before...but of course it didn't last when the docotr came in to explain to me once again what was going to happen a sudden wave of panic came over me which i'm sure everyone experances so i wouldn't worry about that...they give you good drugs to help calm you down...lol...my surgery took about 2 1/2 hours i think and about 4 hours later i was up and walking around...pain was very minimal and easy to control...i was released to go home around noon the next day so my hospital stay was very short....my experiance since my surgery has been wonderful i feel great and i still do a lot of the things i did before if not more i can actually walk up a flight of stairs without feeling winded that in itself make this surgery so worth it...also there are some wonderful people here at OH they have made my transition to the losers bench and easy one....once again congrats on your upcoming surgery and good luck you do just fine...don't worry

i am 1 1/2 months out and down 40 lbs already... honestly, the first two days after surgery i was thinking all day to myself "what the HELL is wrong with you, beth? WHY would you want to put yourself through this... GEEZ..." but looking back now, i was being over dramatic... it was only gas pain, because they did my surgery laproscopicly (or however you spell it.) i was tired the first week, too. but in retrospect, it really IS worth it. i am just trying to give you a realistic look at it... yes, i love my r-n-y, and wouldnt do a THING different, but it didnt come without some struggles. the success you will have with this surgery will (i PROMISE) make every little problem worth it in the end. except for the gas pain (which was solved by LOTS of walking ASAP), i have had ZERO complications with my surgery, i went for a post-op checkup and all was great.i was in the hospital for one night (the only part i didnt like was that the hospital didnt allow anyone to stay with me overnight, so i was by myself... needless to say, my hubby was NOT happy), and i went back to work after 2 1/2 weeks, but was not FULLY recovered ( i work at a daycare****il like, 2 weeks ago. oh, and im only 21, too, so now i have my whole life to look forward to, instead of hiding myself like i was. that makes any of the drawbacks seem insignificant. i hope everthing works beautifully for you, and i apologize for being so dang long-winded!

i am pre op too, and my surgeon is one of the top dudes in this field and he told me that they are beginning to research that this operation can be reversed...thats how safe it is. we are at the right age for it.  i think the older you are the more risky it is, but in our 20's nah, i would sweat it. im chicken**** when it comes to going under the knife...i couldnt even handle going and getting a endoscopy (as part of my pre op testing) but this, nah im not scared like i was before. just keep educating yourself.

I have the same surgeon good old Barry Sanchez.  I had a VSG on November 19 and all went well and I have already lost 20 lbs.  I know you'll be fine and your just that much closer to starting your new healthier life.  Take care.

ITS FUNNY.. CAUSE I WAS IN THE SAME SITUATION YOU ARE IN.  I DIDN'T REALLY THINK OF THE SURGERY THAT MUCH EVEN THOUGH MY DATE WAS COMING ALONG. EVEN WHEN THEY WHEELED ME IN FOR THE SURGERY, I JUST THOUGH OF IT AS WHATEVER.  MY SURGERY WENT VERY WELL.  I WOKE UP IN THE RECOVERY ROOM.  I REMEMBER SEEING ABOUT 8 PEOPLE IN THE RECOVERY ROOM.  I WOKE UP WITHOUT PAIN.  I STOOD ABOUT THREE DAYS IN THE HOSPITAL.  AS OF THIS DAY (15 DAYS FROM SURGERY)... I STILL HAVEN'T HAD ANY PAIN.  I'M ALREADY GOING TO THE GYM AND LOSING WEIGHT.  THE WEIRD THING IS FOOD. YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO GET FULL AGAIN.  ITS A DIFFERENT FEELING.  AS SOON AS YOU FEEL A LITTLE DISCOMFORT IN YOUR STOMACH.. STOP EATING IF NOT YOU'LL BE OVER STUFFED AND DOESN'T FEEL THAT GOOD..  NO PAIN...JUST A LOT OF DISCOMFORT. BUT I FEEL GOOD.. JUST LIKE I HAVE BEFORE.

I'm 3 1/2 years out and  it was a rocky start I lost alot of weight but had a hard time eating, but eventually that was not a problem I was scared but not to much, I think I just knew I had to do something and it felt right, i was in the hospital for 4 days, Even though I had a rough start I would do it all over again.
