Ok so my story is alot like this , I got pregnant and married young, I gained a TON of weight, went from being prom queen to sitting in dairy queen and gave up everything for food. long story short, I got lucky enough to have a gastric bypass procedure done in june of this year!!!I know I should be thrilled. However soon after surgury, I became lazy, like all the times before, my surgeon is in peonix and I am in Tucson and I never make it to my post op group appointments, or classes, I have not been to any support groups and I have told myself I dont need them at all.

Here are the things I am not doing....

Exersising, you heard that right, I have went walking twice since surgury. I hated it before and I still do.

Drinking water, yeah again maybe 2 glasses a day. TOPS, I try to get liquids in with tea bu****er really gets my stomach sick, unless I SIP!

Taking supplements or vitamins, ok so yeah I have not drank a protien drink in over 3 months, my hair is falling out and I dont know the last time that I took a daily multi vitamin or a supplament.???? I know I know.

So basiclly I am letting myself go, I am not loosing very fast maybe 70 pounds in 4 months, which is still fast, but, I did have bypass.

I am feeling like I have not made the changes I need to make, I know I dont take care of myself. I run a home daycare and care for everyone else.

I guess what I am needing from all of you twenty somethings, is to tell me how you incorporate ALL of this new stuff that is still so new to me into your life?  please someone, anyone help me with some tips that help you get into your routine? thanks so much guys.

Here is going to be some tuff love.... YOU ARE RUNNING ON A HEAD ON CRASH COURSE WITH DISASTER! You really need to make a point to at the least get in your vitamins and protien. That is UBER crucial. Have you read the horror stories that accompany thoes that don't follow that at the least! Such as months long hospitalization or death in some instances. We may have had different procedures but we both still require vitamins and protien requirements. Water, get it in some way some how. Make homemade popcicles with crystal lite if you have to. Its still water! And sip sip sip sip, dehydration and viatmin deficiancies at the same time are big trouble! Even if you don't make your post-op appointments at the VERY LEAST get your labs done! So you can head off what could be a potential problem....which I hate to say you are already heading for, to be so non compliant this early out! Your hair falling out is nothing unusual it usually starts at 3-4 months post op and can last for almost till your a year post-op. But yours may be worse because of your non-compliance. As for exercise as it is good for you and you should do something. Right at this particular moment, I wouldnt worry about it, you have a few other things that are FAR more important than exercise. Plus exercise would mean using up more nutrients than what is available to you! In Conclusion----- START TAKING YOUR VIATMINS AT THE VERY LEAST!

By not taking your suppliments/vitamins you are doing a GREAT disservice to yourself (and those who love you)... those who do not take them FAITHFULLY for LIFE can/will suffer greatly later on... it will take time for your body to show the effects of not receiving proper vitamins but they will come up... a lot of times it can be too late or extremely serious. If you had this surgery to be healthy, be there for your children and live a happy life... then you are not achieving that by denying your body what it needs. Out of everything you listed above this is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing you need to work on. You do not have to drink protein drinks if you can get the protein from food but you do NEED to get the vitamins in. As for drinking water... thats something you need to work on as well... you have to carry water with you as much as possible, always have it handy... sip sip sip all day... have SF popscicles... crystal light... whatever you like best in the way of fluids (thats SF and caffeine free) and get to sipping!  It seems to me you are feeling overwhelmed so start with the vitamins  - focus on one thing at a time... write a note, set a timer... put the vitamins where they are right in front of your face... so you will take them. Make a chart for yourself and use a 'gold star' system... every day you take your vitamins you get a gold star - so many gold stars and give yourself a reward. Once you get the vitamins down then focus on the water... then the exercise etc. Think back to why you wanted this surgery... what did you go thru to get it... remember what brought you to such a major decision. Remembering back to why you made the decision may help to push you to do what it is you need to do to be successful. Did you go thru all this just to fail? No, of course not. The biggest thing to me would be working on being a healthy person... you do NOT want to suffer major medical issues down the road because you neglected yourself now... for me, that was the reason of having surgery - so I wouldnt have to suffer the effects of obesity as I got older (and more than likely fatter).  How did I imcorporate this stuff into my life? I just did, I have no magic secret or trick to tell you.... I was desperate to have this surgery and went into it wanting to be successful and healthy for life. That has been motivation enough to make the changes necessary and stick to them. There is no way I am ever going to go back to where I came from!

I was not that great at working out and drinking water & I still don't, but the vitamins...come on! Get you some chewable iron and flintstone vitamins along with calcium and B12. You are doing damage to your body by not taking vitamins. Even with taking mine around month 3 and 4 I felt ran down and my hair started coming out. You need your vitamins~ Holli

After I had RNY which was 2-13-07 I was very motivated and drank plenty of water got in most of my protein and exercised. About 2 months ago I started a new job which ment new hours that I was not used to and was in a relationship. Did the tables turn. I started eating unhealthy again. I know it is difficult but you need to get in the routine of things. Get motivated! You did not have RNY to stay unhealthy.. It is never too late to start incorporating exercise, water, and vitimans into your daily life.  Lets retrian our bodies so we can be healthier!  ~Diana~

Thank you everybody for your replies. I have been reading them and have taken what each of you has said very seriously. Today was the start of a new way of life for me. I guess I felt invincible like I would not be that person that would get sick. Just a question? what are some of the consequences of not taking vitamins? I mean I know you can get sick, but what are some signs? anyone know.

I am really not one to give you advice because all the things you said you don't do. .well neither do I. .I am also 4 months out. .I just started taking my vitamins and that is just a multivitamin and they taste terrible. .I never drank a protein shake and my protein levels are fine. .my hair started to fall out and it's horrible. .i don't know if this happened to you but you def dont want it to. .I was hospitilized for dehydration and it's probably the most horrible thing I have ever gone through(this is pretty common if you don't take care of yourself). .your body just aches all over and your shaking. .the iv burns your arm. .the potassium is what does that but they won't stop it because your body needs it. .if your body is even 10% dehydrated you have the possibility of death. .im not trying to scare you, I just wish someone had told me that before I went through it. . .start taking care of yourself even if it's just vitamins and water. .those are the most important, the rest will come with time. Good Luck!!
