i had no complications whatsoever. Everything went well and I was off painmeds 36 hours after surgery. I think one just heals so much better at this young age. I was back to a completely normal routine just 2.5 weeks after surgery, even doing sports. I am sure you are gonna do just as well.... Good luck for your surgery, keep us posted. Laura

I havent had any complications. I had a little acid reflux this past August but it was more stress, than surgery, related... thats been the biggest 'bump'.

I have 3 friends who had surgery who are 5 years, 6 years, 7 years+ out. The 5 and 6 years have not had any complications... the 7 years did have a bowel obstruction (it was in her first year I believe) and had to have surgery to correct. My 6 year out friend had some self-inflicted complications by not taking her vitamins and not eating properly (this was 3+ years out).... she had to go to the hospital a few times for being dehydrated and low iron etc. Since then she has been a much better post-WLS patient and is in great health!

2 week freak is NORMAL, well usually.I never did I just wanted my life back! I was scott free my first year post-op. But did have a minor misshap one year 2 weeks post-op, PROVEN not related to my WLS but did reak havoc to my internals. Had something that caused my bypassed intestine to twist. Had to of course go into surgery again. Spent 2 weeks in the hospital (one week ICU and one week in a step down room) mainly because of the hell it reaked on my pancrease from backed up enzymes. And had to have 18 inches of my small intestine removed because it died from the twist. Cause my stupid ass put up with the pain for oh 6 hours or so. I used to get chronic stomach aches all the time (before surgery) thought it was one of thoes. Yes they would last all day. But once I was home and recovered (which took 2 months compared to my actual WLS, probably because I wasnt allowed to eat for 2 weeks) everything has been fine and dandy. Still no real reason known as to why it happened.  Now since about December last year its been like nothing ever happened. And I still do not regret my choice for surgery!

Hey,  I didn't have any medical complications from my surgery...but at about 3 weeks out I did deal with some depression issues.  It did take me a while to get all my energy back...about 6 weeks I finally felt normal.  Other than that, everything was fine and I healed up very well.

No complications! I was NERVOUS before and went through major food panic eating anything that was not nailed down!!! But for real.....it was the easiest! I woke up asking my mom "did they do anything, I don't feel anything"! The worst part was the swallow test the day after! Holli

Okay, I actually did have complications: but only partially related to surgery. I had developed a blood infection and was rushed back to the hospital the day after i was released. But you know what? the doctors are prepared for anything. and while at the time, all i could think was, why did i do this? its been 14 months or something now. i am 100 lbs lighter, and feel amazing. be prepared for anything, and it will be okay. i mean, i even wrote a will and had my affairs in order, but since such a small percentage of patients have real issues (mostly related to not following dr orders anyway), i wouldnt worry to much. when you wake up, your gonna be sore, and pissed, but when you go back in after that month, and see that number on the scale be 20, 30, even 40 lbs lower? it will be worth it. changing your life to be normal and healthy is always worth it. Good luck!

No complications for me.  The first two weeks was rough, but by week three i was pretty much back to normal.  sometimes i am low on energy (i will get my first b12 shot at the end of this month)  i had a drain in for a week and as soon as they took it out i started feeling a lot better!
