I'm New!

Hey everyone! I had my surgery on Wednesday... so, i'm really new to this. REALLY new. I had R-N-Y, and am bouncing back 110% from it, I'm just needing support from people my own age (I'm 21).  I went to a couple of meeting with groups, and they're all in their 40's & up.  i mean, it was okay, but i don't hink anyone knew where i was coming from.  I'm originally from Arkansas (GO HOGS!), but my husband is in the Air Force, and we're currently living in Florida, and I've only been here for about 3 months, so I don't really know a lot of people here. All of my friends are in arkansas.... my sorority sisters... (Alpha sisma alpha...gah, i miss them!) It's been hard to find support. My husband tries, but thinl about it... he's 21, he runs 3 or 4 miles 5 days a week, how fat do you think he's ever been? i love him sooo much, don't get me wrong, but he's, well, he's dumb when it comes to weight issues.  And it's REALLY been frustrating to think about having to cook some of our favorite meals we used to enjoy together (imagine fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, and my all-time favorite, velveeta mac & cheese) and watch only him get to enjoy it while i'm getting to chow down on sugar-free protien shakes (which makes me SICK!) and baby food.  ugh! I hope this gets mucho better, and quick... i don't feel like i've accomplished anything yet. idon't feel any lighter, as a matter of fact, i feel as bloated as a 3 day-old dead deer on the side of the highway. (sorry that was rather descriptive. :S  ) any advice or supprot would be mucho bueno.

Welcome aboard! The first few weeks are always tough as you know. Even if you are feeling pretty good physically, emotionally it can be a roller coaster. "Food Mourning" is a common struggle we all deal with as the idea of never eating the same way again becomes a reality. I promise you it will get easier over the coming weeks and months. Within a few months you should be able to eat almost all the same foods you did before just in smaller more "normal" portions. Of course sugar will always need to curtailed and watched very carefully, but you will be able to enjoy 'normal" foods again.

Welcome. Give it some time, and you will start feeling  and seeing the weight loss. I'm glad you recovered so well from the surgery, thats one less thing to worry about. As for meals, once you move on to solids, there are some great things that you can make that are full of protien and your husband will love. Soon you can both enjoy dinner together. Just be patient, you'll get there.

Welcome to the group!!!  I can imagine how hard it is to see him munching down when you are stuck with blah food... I was always thankful I lived alone when I had the surgery and didnt have to deal with family/bf/hubby etc eating in front on my face! You can still enjoy some old favorites together when you are further out... just find more healthy ways to do it - oven 'fried' chicken, mac n cheese made with LF cheese and whole grain pasta... for me its been fun to find ways to make things at home... lowfatcooking.com is now one of my favorite websites (after food.com!!).  As for not feeling like youve accomplished anything... you accomplished a lot in my eyes! YOU decided to have surgery YOU walked into the surgeons office YOU went thru all the insurance company requirements and YOU had a major surgery (and survived it all!). Give yourself time and you will start to notice a difference with the weight... we  all want to see instant results but it does take time... try and focus on the future... 3, 6, 9 months down the road your life will be so much different!

Good point Jennifer - after seven months and 116 lbs. I can honestly say that the most difficult part wasn't post-op it was the anixous months leading up to surgery and the surgery and first few days itself. It only gets better!

First off, welcome to the boards! The people here are amazing!   Secondly.. everyone has brought up some awesome points. It only gets easier. I actually don't cook anything that I personally wouldnt put in my body for my husband. Grilled chicken not fried.. and if your husband really loves fried chicken you can always make fake fried chicken. As soon as you're eating solid foods things will get easier. Promise. :)  Anyway, if you need any help or have any questions feel free to ask. Someone will likely have an answer or atleast some input! :)
