Psch Eval
OK, I'm probably overreacting, but I am so worried now. My info has just been sent to my insurance company. Today I got a copy of my psych evaluation and the evaluating psychologist has asked that continuing psychotherapy be a condition of the surgery.
Is that even possible, is my first question. Can they require you to see a therapist to get the surgery? I am not depressed and have no disorders and the evaluating psychologist is basing this off of my childhood and history of rape and sexual abuse. She claims that having never seen a therapist equates to never having "dealt" with the issue. I cannot understand why this has anything to do with the surgery and why basically a person who has spoken with me for less than two hours has the power to decide such things.
My other question is, do you think this will affect my approval? Will they think I am a risky candidate because of the psychotherapy request?
Any information would be helpful. I'm on pins and needles anyway, and reading her report has made it way worse.
Hey,
I haven't heard anyone requiring therapy after surgery, but I would definitely recommend it. I think ANYONE who has this life changing surgery should be seeing a therapist to deal with the issues it brings up. I have yet to start seeing one, but I'm looking for one for sure. I don't think it should affect your approval, I hope. I mean, depression is a comorbidity of being overweight and they should take that into consideration. I never got to see my psych eval, so I'm not sure exactly what he said. I wouldn't worry too much about it!!!! Good luck!!!!
Yes they can require you to sign papers before your surgery requiring you to attend appointments with a therapist after surgery. I did, I am not depressed or anything I have no real problems but they wanted me to continue to see a therapist its fine I saw her for the second time since my surgery and we talk about my protein and how I am feeling and shes super nice so I dont really mind and my insurance covers most of the visit.
As far as it affecting your approval NO i was approved on the first try so it shouldnt affect that.
Don't worry it will be fine!!!
