Nobody Likes Me!

I called four different surgeons' offices in Phoenix today to try to set up aftercare here. I'm a few weeks past due for my six month follow up....Nobody will take me! I guess either A. all the money is made upfront with the surgery, or B. they don't want to risk trying to treat me when they don't have the first-hand knowledge of exactly how my surgery was done. Either way I feel like a reject. I have gone through all of the ASBS Center of Excellence options, now I will have to find someone who does not have that accredidation. Maybe, I should preface my request by saying I am only 28, near goal, with only one minor complication that has pretty much been resolved, Maybe then I won't be treated as a "high-risk" patient. Damn, I feel like a Leper.

How about calling your surgeons office and asking them to find you a doc?? I am sure they have some sort of colleague (sp?) referral program set-up or at the very least your surgeon might know of a center you could try (and try to get them to make a call for you!) I know this happens often with any type of medical procedure, noone will touch you after!? its Crazy...hope this helps!

I was thinking the same thing, I would ask your surgens office to help you find a doctor now that you moved, they should be pretty accomidating (sp?)

A guy I work with moved here not too long ago and is having the same issue. Basically surgeons do not want to take 'responsibility' for somebody elses work... Im assuming its too much of a liability/insurance issue. He has to drive back to where he use to live 10+ hours for his followup care.

I had the same problem. I eventually found one. Just keep looking and/or begging. Sometimes if you squirt a tear and talk about how scary it is not to have a doctor, it helps. Ha!
