protein snacks
FYI: I discovered a great new source of protein, OSTrim meat snacks.
A healthier version of Slim Jims, this 1.5 oz. dried snack sausage
made from beef and ostrich meat packs 14 grams of protein in only 80
calories & 1.5 g. fat. They cost about $1.75 or so at the Vitamine
Shoppe on South Lake (though they are cheaper if you buy in bulk).
They come in various flavores, pepper, teriyaki, etc and are 97% fat
free. The downside is the sodium content (as with most prepared
foods) at 430 mg. For a picture visit

Since I am tired of those darn protein bars masquerading as lead-
weight candy bars (gag) I love my meat snacks. The only protein bars
I care to eat these days are Payday Pro and Payday Pro Trailmix
protein bars. http://www.hersheys.com/products/details/payday.asp?

*for the newbies* I am two years out from surgery. Although the meat
snacks are softer and chewier than regular Slim Jims, I don't know if
I'd try them until you are at least the solid food stage.
Happy snacking,
Kari
