My Cigna plan covers no PS... I tracked down a benefits booklet today to check before I got my hopes up... the thought didnt come to me until last night (while watching Dr90210!) so at least it was a short lived 'dream'. Im going to still go to my PCP and get my complaints logged so if I move to another job or we get different insurance where I work now I am already set. Guess Im headed to buy lotto tickets tonite!!

As I wrote to you in your post. Te*****ally it is not PS IF proven to have medical ramifications. Pannilectomy (hopefully I spelled that right) is not considered PS. As I stated if it is causing you back problems and rashes etc. It may take a bit of fighting but it is possible. Having your surgeon and PCP on your side is always helpful too.

Yeah I read that which prompted me to check...  their wording is as follows "following services are excluded from coverage REGARDLESS of clinical indications: its a looooong list... then states Abdominoplasty, Panniculectomy, then keeps on going" They also go as far to state in another section covering obesity treaments (well there NONcoverage of them)  "medical and surgical services to alter appearances or physical changes that are the result of any surgery performed for the management of obesity or colinically serve obesity".... "whether prescribed or recommended by a physician or under medical supervision" so its a double whammy.

Ouch, but Ive also heard Cigna is a pain in the @$$ For anything!  They say clinical indications but nothin about Medical nessecity. And there is a difference quite honestly I would say give it a shot at them. But make sure you get your PCP, surgeon and possibly a chiropractor on your side. And make sure they state it is a medical necessity.  I love insurance companys, NOT! Just some of the wording tells me there may ways around. the whole prescribed or recommended thing. Its just that perscribed or recommended, it says nothing against necessity! To me would depend how bad you want it. I know someone who fought Cigna tooth and nail and won for her to have surgery.  you could bring this up on the insurance forum, you may get some help there too.

Yeah... I use to work at Cigna and they are the WORST. I know somebody who still works there so I am going to contact them and see what they have to say about it. Maybe they can give me a ray of hope! :-)

I know it is not always a viable alternative, but have you looked into any insurance alternatives that you might have?  My husband and I thought about changing insurances if our current insurance wasn't going to cover my surgery, but thankfully they did. I know it is not always a viable alternative because it may cost more, but the cost of a higher insurance would definetly be cheaper than the cost of the full TT.

This is the only insurance my job offers. Typically individual plans give you the BASIC and cut out all the additional... like WLS or 'reconstructive' surgery. I already got a quote from BCBS and because Ive had 2 major surgeries in the past 5 years and well as treatment for depression my rate would be over $800 a month. Rather save that towards PS :-)
