I'm a full time student and my surgery is scheduled for 11/13. I am about 1+ week ahead on readings and homework for all of my classes because I knew my surgery would happen during the semester and made sure all along that I was ahead... Are any of you students? If your surgery happened during the semester, how long did it take you to get back to classes? The week after my surgery, Thanksgiving break begins, so that will be good, but I'm just wondering how long after surgery it took other students to get back to school.

Well, I had surgery on the 10th, and today was my first day back to work.  So I'm not a student, but I work about 50+/week so it only took me 10 days to get into the swing of things again.

I'm a teacher and I took 2 weeks off....I totally could have went back after 1 week though....By the end of the two weeks I was bored out of my mind and physically I felt great!

I'm a student too, I had my surgery on the 11th and I went to classes and let my teachers know I was having surgery they all were pretty supportive and I did my best to get ahead before surgery.  I am going back to class on monday, and they are all excited to have me back, but all my teachers are pretty flexable and willing to work with me.

Student and Full time worker here!  Depending on how you feel, you can go back to school.  Great planning for Thanksgiving break in my opinion.  I was most tired week three, but my school load was simple enough- just couldn't play my tuba since the deep breathing hurt me llol.

The more things the change, the more they're still the same.

Im a student and i have my surgery planned to happen right at the beggining of Christams break. That way I will have four weeks off from school, but my surgeon did say that I would probably even be able to go back after two weeks.

In 2 weeks I was ready to be classroom bound, but another complication (unrelated to WLS) came up.  Make sure your professors know what is going on (if you're uncomfortable telling them you're having WLS just say it is "major abdominal surgery" and that is good enough) so they can work with you.  Mine were great.  I had my surgery in the middle of November and because of the complication I was out for the rest of the semester - I took a couple "incompletes" and finished finals and such at home when I was up to it.  Kudos on getting ahead of course material already, that should help. I'd say plan on 2 weeks off, but know that unforseen complications do happen sometimes (heaven forbid anything happen to you!).  Congratulations on your surgery date!
