Please post your thoughts and/or comments on this.
I think it is reverse racism, especially on Sharpton's part, and it is sickening! If 6 white kids had beat up a black kid, and not vice versea, Sharpton would be seaking the death penalty, not clammoring about charges being dropped against these black kids. I think Sharpton is the worst, for what it's worth. He is a poser and a user. Quick to stand up and acknowledge the good his race has done, but takes none of the blame.
As you can tell, I am very opinionated on this issue!
My comment is neither here nor there on Sharpton.. I get the do what you can for your own cause thing..
My issue is why is it attempted murder? Shouldn't that be used on those actually trying to kill someone?
I mean if six people tried to beat me up.. I think they would succeed in killing me.. and I know damn well I wouldn't be able to go to the school function the same night.
I am not saying they shouldn't be punished.. but attempted murder??? come on now!
As for the racist part... nooses in the trees **** me off, and I'm white.

"Everyone's equal" but everyone is not treated equally.
it's pretty standard that attempted manslaughter is a charge in situations like this..unless they HAVE established pre-meditation. In the case where you kick someone in the head who is on the ground, there IS precedent for 2nd degree attempted murder.
You can't unequivocally state that "justice is blind" and they get what they get -- the history of the town is rich with racism and White Supremacist actions that have gone unpunished.
I don't know about Sharpton, he's just another politician to me. However I disagree with the idea that this is "reverse racism". They were excessively charged in criminal court in an issue that should have been dealt with in juvenile court and held on bail that was completely ridiculous. The six of them should surely be punished, and I don't think anyone argues against them going to court for appropriate charges. If six white kids had beaten a black kid they probably not have been charged with attempted murder. The truth of the matter is that the school and community should have done more after the white students hung the nooses in the tree outside the school.
I totally agree! The issue is being lost in all the hype~ not if or if not a crime occured, but actually what crime occured and are Constitutional Rights and Rule of Law being implemented and followed? The criminal justice system "should" have a rule of law to go by in charging individuals with a crime, having swift and equal justice and having protections against excessive bail...that is what is in question. Studies, statistics and research show that our criminal justice system does not act in a matter of FACT way, but a matter of COLOR and socioecnomic status. This is the problem! Holli

This is actually a pretty good account of things:

People get all riled up and try to oversimplify the racial overtones to this case, for doing so, brock, you're as bad as Al Sharpton.

No, he's pretty much a politician, so he's worse. I'm just a racist.
