I have a wedding to go to in 3 weeks and I'm wondering about drinking a glass of wine.... Has anyone had any negative effects from wine?? (like dumping?)

This topic in one form or another comes up here all the time...I haven't tried any wine yet...only beer. I've been too afraid of the sugar content. The key here is that you really should check with your surgeon. Every doctor is different in their post-op routine, and it seems their really is a lot of variation between them on this topic especiallly. Just as an example though, my clinic advised me to not even try alcohol until 3 months after surgery, and then only to try it at home for the first time. The thing is most RNY patients will notice a big difference in how their new plumbing processes alchohol. Generally, you will notice a much lower tolerance leading to rapid intoxication. It is also possible to experience dangerous peaks and valleys in blood sugar levels as a result. So for some folks drinking at all isn't advisable. There is alot of information on this website about this topic. I think you will find arguments for both sides, if you're seeking advice condoning drinking or condemning it, you'll easily find both! In my opinion the bottomline is you should ask your doctor about it, then decide whether or not you want to listen to them ;)

I love wine...I do really well with it....typically i only drink white wine.....1 or 2 glasses will have you really drunk so be careful!   Def try drinking at home before you go out....just in case....good luck

I'll answer, since I'm the resident lush. 3 months post op, me and 2 buddies were on vacation and drank 6 bottles of red between us over the course of 2 dinners.

I waited until after 6 months to drink and find that wine made me extremely tired and very very thirsty... even at over a year out I will only, on occasion drink it at home because it still has the same effect. Red wines also make me hot... I get flushed and feel like I am burning up!
