This is just a preliminary question...I'm thinking of doing some research on obesity and education -- personally it has impacted me in subtle and overt ways. Since my area is higher education, I am just wondering if any of you would be willing to take an online questionnaire/survey (10-15minutes) at most or perhaps talk with me on the phone for an interview to talk about your experiences with obesity and making decisions about education. Some examples: did being overweight in high school lead you to be less inclined to go on to college -- either through bad social experiences or lack of confidence? In what ways did being overweight affect your college/university experience? Has losing a great deal of weight impacted your decision to go back to school to earn a college degree?** **I'm particularly interested in this question. My motivation for this is to help educate the education community about the experiences of what we go through being overweight students. School doesn't need to be a horrible painful experience. I remember before going to high school and being worried that I would FIT in the damn desk.  Please feel free to PM me or post here. ALL information would remain confidential. THANKS! If you want to know about my credentials... http://portfolio.du.edu/lagans

Glad to see you are a sister feminist? Are you a member of NOW? I am!! I would be willing to take an online survey for your research! I think it is a great idea! I am working on my second Master's. My weight never prohibited me from education, that has always been a love of mine. Just let me know where to go for the survey~ Holli

I would help out!

I didn't know it at the time... but yes, being overweight it was easier to not go to school... just sit at home and eat... social experience AND lack of confidence.

Now I'm confident.  I command the room he he... and I can fit in the desks- the utter embarrassment of not fitting before was the major factor :(

The more things the change, the more they're still the same.
