Learned something new this weekend.. (diet related)

I went and got a fill this weekend.. and also went to on of Dr. Curry's support groups.  I learned something new.  Now this might be old hat for everyone else, but stupid me just found out.   You can subtract Fiber and Sugar Alcohol from Carbs to get a true Carb number.  Example: SBD High Protein Cereal Bar Chocolate 15g Carbs   3g Fiber   3g Sugar Alcohol So you would only count 9g of Carbs.  I wish I would have known that 9 months ago.  I have been tearing my hair out trying to keep my carbs down and couldn't do it. While I am sure I am still over most days.. I am alot closer now. Amanda

When you subtract the fiber and sugar alcohol is when you get NET carbs. Check with your surgeon/NUT to see if you are to keep track of NET carbs... or ACTUAL carbs... a lot of foods will say 'lo carb' because the NET carbs are low... but the product is really high in carbs. My NUT has me track ACTUAL carbs so I still have to watch every bit! I am allowed just 2 servings from bread/starches a day and the rest of my carbs come from fruits/veggies/dairy.

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)

I got the info from the nutritionist working in my surgeon's office.. so I think I am good. Thanks for explaining the difference.

Shoot... I wish I got to keep track of NET carbs... Im sure if I asked if I could they would lower my carbs!!! :-) I eat 90-100g carbs a day... its hard to stay under... well its easy if I stay away from bread carbs... but I am addicted to soy crackers! Little things are so tasty good... I have to keep them out of the house!

Well hell's bells.. I would be fine if I could eat 90-100g in carbs.. I am not supposed to eat more than 60.
