Ok im posting this to see what other people thing of my post op habbits so far. Im down 48lbs since surgery and 78lbs total. it will be a month on thursday. Is that too much weight loss? I feel all kinds of wierdness. Im down a lot of weight but i still feel like a cow. my clothes are falling off of me but im just not happy unless i can fit into a size 14 like now. i know im rushing things but has anyone else felt that way? im really focused on losing the weight and its kind of been easy so far. i dont eat much at all. maybe 2 times a day if it stays down. im constantly throwing up (manually) because im still trying to get used to how i should be eating every meal and i know im not getting enough liquids. I started running last week, 2 miles and that feels great. i havent been able to run since jr high. i dont know if im just feeling crazy because my hormones are all out of wack but im feeling very unhealthy lately. i have a nut appointment on wednesday so i will tell her whats going on with me then. any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Well, i think that any weight loss is awesome, so good job. I'm 3 weeks out and 26 pounds gone, but you seem to be doing more exercising than me, and i'm able to keep foods down. Your nut will know and hopefully put in some insight. are you having protein shakes between meals? i'm supposed to, but the milk made ones I can't tolerate, and the protein water either tastes nasty or i get so full i can't drink it. ??? and don't feel crazy , my hormones are not friendly to me or anyone else!! lol good luck on wednesday. keep me posted! :) Amanda

Kimberly, hopefully your NUT will help you keep things down and such.  I would talk to him/her about the weight loss to see if it is excessive.  It doesnt seem very excessive to me, but ya know I not a doctor.  Hopefully they can let you know more about the appropriateness of your weight loss.  You sound like your doing good.  Try to get your liquids in especially if your exersizing I know you need those.

Kimberly, I think you are going through what a lot of us go through when we are just beginning to eat again. It really is a challenge for some of us. That pouch of yours is still really swollen, and so is the anastomosis (the connection). So things have a real hard time passing through, and with your stomach already in a cranky state from healing, any company it gets that sticks around too long gets booted out!  So it is real hard to eat, and what you do eat is hard to keep down. All that adds up to some serious weight loss, as you have seen...The only problem that you may or may not have, I don't know, is that sometimes when you don't get enough calories, protein, and liquid your body will actually start digesting its own lean mass (muscle) This happened to me, I really knew it when I started lfiting weights again at about 9 weeks out. I know it's hard but all you can do is try to do your best. Experiment with different protein supplements, at least for now until you can get more down the old fashioned way with solid foods. There are so many different kinds - creamy ones, unflavored ones, fruity ones, bullet vial test tube ones - hopefully you can find one you can tolerate..One thing I found was that early on the shakes I made in my blender were too bubbely and could lead to "foamies" (you know that foamy dry heaving we get now) so I used the ready to drink ones instead. You might also want to experiment with dfferent temperatures. Warm was good for me, room temperature even better, and cold was BAD....On the soft foods, I say the simpler and softer the better. I found the less adventerous the better Ralph liked it (Ralph is the name I gave my pouch early on because thats what he does if I mistreat him)...Do definetly bring up these issues with your nutrtionist, he ought to be able to give you some great advice - don't hesitate to call him today either, he should be able to give you help over the phone, if he doesn't let me know and I will give you my nutritionists number, seriously he would help you - he's awesome....
