Howdy folks, Glad to see some action around here and thanks to everyone who has jumped on this thread!  I'm going to do my best to keep it going as long as you guys keep responding! You're going to beat me when you read what I ate today, heck, I have thought about beating myself!  I have been dog sick most of the day and that has really kind of snow balled into me sleeping a lot and not eating a whole lot at all.  I cross my heart, swear to die and stick a needle in my eye that once I am done with surgeries and complications I will do MUCH better.  I almost thought about not posting what I ate, but here goes - this is a shining example of how NOT to eat to be healthy as a post-op. 9:00 - 2 oatmeal chocolate chip cookies w/ 6 oz skim milk Then my younger sister made me laugh so hard I cried, and not because she was being super funny.  You see I have this port thingy that holds a tube that runs into my old stomach so I can drain my old stomach of fluids until I have my next surgery and it sticks out right under my left rib cage and makes laughing a PAINFUL experience.  She has this gack stuff that makes very convincing fart noises.  This would not be a problem if I were mature enough not to get a good chortle out of fart noises, but apparently I am not that mature.  She just kept doing it and doing it and I was like "Oh Cathy stop - it hurts!" as I am clutching my side and laughing and she thought I wasn't serious so I did that until the pain got so intense tears started rolling down my cheeks.  Then it was not so funny, well it is now, but then not so much.  After that I took 2 pain pills and slept until just about an hour ago. 4:30 - 15 red grapes Working on a 24 oz bottle of water and I think I'm going to have a decaff coffee with creamer to soothe my aching gut.  Please, please tell me you're doing better than me!

I dumped HARD (we're talking HOURS on my bathroom floor begging the toilet monster to just come up and eat me so I could stop dumping) on a SB diet bar the first time I tried it at about 6 months out from surgery and ever since then I can hardly stand the sight of them.  I should try them again because I know that something you dump on one day will be fine the next but I haven't been able to do it yet.  I'm glad they work for you because their nutritional stats are pretty good.  You're doing awesome on the water, protien, cals - everything looks good!  We'll see you tomorrow!

McDonalds has some okay choices - really their wraps aren't all that bad (I like the grilled ranch one, I take off about 1/2 the tortilla though) and their grilled chicken club (lite mayo and without most of the bun) is pretty good too if you're ina hurry.  I guess the problem comes in if going their triggers you to get Big Macs and all the crap that made us big to begin with.  It sounds like you had control though so good choice with the wrap and sticking to only a few fries. You are doing really well Mike!  Thanks for responding tonight and hopefully I'll see you back on this thread tomorrow!

Luckily the idea of eating the way I used to at McDonalds still repulses me...I used to drive through McDonalds almost everyday on my way home from work. I would be 5 or 6 hours since I ate lunch and I would be starving I would order a Big Mac value meal with extra onions and special sauce, large fries, large Hi-C, and a chicken sandwich with cheese and extra mayo or double cheeseburger on top of that! And I would eat it all, and then I would go home and eat dinner a few hours later. It's no wonder I got so huge,  huh?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Supersize me, please!  Yesterday was kind of cool, cuz I was able to go there and feel grossed out by the people eating the big macs and ordering double quarter pounders with cheese....In fact, I was kind of grossed out by little snack wrap - I opened it up and wiped off most of the bbq sauce - it was just drowning in that sugar-laden stuff. I didn't want to dump and frankly it  just didn't need that much sauce to flavor it....I also didn't finish the tortialla. The end where it is folded up is just all tortiilla - doesn't taste that good and just wastes space in my pouch with starch - it's protein first especially as I am starting to feel full. I do stuff like that all the time, especially with sandwiches. I'll start feeling full and pull off the meat and eat that and leave the rest of the starch behind. It's a good way to make sure you get in your protein...

It wasn't McDonalds for me pre-op ****il they started carrying their premium chicken sandwiches I probably ate at McDonalds 1-2 times a year) it was this semi-fast food restaurant we have here in Wiscondin called Culvers that specializes in home made custard and really awesome burgers - but what got me were there chili cheese dogs.  I would go through the drive thru and get 2-3 chili cheese dogs, a large order of fries and a strawberry shake.  Of course I went through the drive thru because I was too embarassed to order that in the store (as I should have been).   Now a days I get a chili cheese dog occasionally and eat mostly just the dog and chili and cheese.  They don't taste as good as they did pre-op so I don't go out of my way to get them.  I feel the same way about the topping and all the extra tortilla on the wraps - I ask for 1/2 the dressing and then pull most of the empty-calorie tortilla off to get to the good stuff.  And besides, the part that tastes the best is the chicken so who needs the tortilla!

Ruthie, Where you been? Are you still ralphing...Sounds like you aren't eating too bad for eight weeks out...How did that chicken rice soup sit for you - I still have trouble with any meat that comes out of a can, especially stringy rubbery chicken in cans....you might want to try working in a protein drink somewhere in there just to make sure you get enough of the good stuff so you don't wind up losing a ton of muscle like I did....Good to see your getting your liquids in....Have you tried the rasberry white tea crystal light to go packets- yum!

I am so jealous - cereal with milk makes me dump.  Milk alone is fine, cereal alone is also fine but together and .  But if it works for you - awesome.  It all sounds good to me, I just echo what Mike said - a little extra protien never hurts.  Have you ever plugged your daily intake into a site like fitday.com or I think there is one called sparkpeople that the folks on the Main board seem to like?  It'll help you see how many calories you're getting, where you're getting them from and so on.  I know you are still relatively newly post-op so you aren't going to be able to get many calories, but eventually you're going to need to get more calories (shocker I know, but it is possible to eat too little to lose weight) and when that happened for me fitday really helped.  Keep up your water intake and I hope to see you on the thread tomorrow evening!
