I got banded on 5/11/07 and I have only lost 25 lbs. I really dont know what is going on with me. I do know that I feel like I have no support. I thought about joining a support group for wls, but I tried to go today and they happended to not have it that day. They only meet like once a month. I dont know? What do they talk about at these support groups and is it beneficial?

Hi Niki!  Get yourself to a group ASAP!  The online community is wonderful and able to give you instant support... but I find that actual interaction forces us to be accountable for our actions.  PLUS, we gain new relationships and can become inspirations to others that are fighting insurance companies or just starting their journey. I had the RNY, so not too familiar with the Band.  BUT in my opinion, 25 pounds is NOT shabby at all!  The rate at which we lose also depends on starting weight, height, etc etc... plus the Band isn't know to be super fast.  Are you exercising some yet?  That would probably jump start your loss... and what about your diet?  Protein first?  All your vitamins and water? I would advise you to get out to as many groups as possible... I visit one regularly twice a month and when my schedule allows it, check out two others as well.  There aren't any in my home town, but the support and constant encouragment is worth the 30 minute drive. Congrats on your loss so far and good luck, hon! Jaci

Hi Niki, I actually go to the support group at Lexington Medical Center! Or at least did - I'm moving to Phoenix in a couple of weeks. Anyway they meet every month on the first Wednesday at 6:00 PM in the auditorium in the building kitty-corner from the Atlanta Bread Company. It is a big group full of a lot of lap-banders and some RNY patients. I really enjoy it and have gone every month since my surgery. I would definetly recommend it. Where did you have your surgery? I know Palmetto Baptist has a bariatric program as well and I believe theire support group meets twice a month. Of course you can always seek and receive plenty of support here on the WLS in your 20's Forum or some of the other OH forums like the lap-band forum, or South Carolina Forum. As far as the 25 lb weight loss in three months, I can only tell you that from what I have heard from lap-banders the weight comes off much slower then RNY patients. 5 lbs. a month is supposed to be good. Have you gotten any fills yet? Have they found your "sweet spot" or the ideal amount to fill the band with? How is your diet? exercise? Anyways, welcome to the 20's forum and I hope you find the support you are looking for here or somewhere else.

Thanks! I got my surgery in Conway, SC. I was a self pay patient, because my insurance wouldnt cover it (it costed a lot less in Conway than here. Tthey, however, went up on their prices the month after my surgery. I was lucky!).  I have had one fill. I have a 4 cc band that is filled 2 cc. I do feel more resriction, but I dont think that I have found my sweet spot. Have you? People I know like to eat out a lot. It seems like a form of entertainment for them and I'm just not into that anymore. I wind up eating a little too fast and a little to much. (Which I learned can be painful. I need to steer clear of eating out for a little longer). So, I say hey lets go to Dryer Island and camp or go walking at Riverfront, ect. (no one seems interested). I think thats what I mean by no support. I think I will go to the group at Lexington Medical Center. Glad to hear there are number of bandsters My diet is pretty good. I eat less. I could use some more exercise (Im averaging 2x week) Thanks for responding.
