Did you or Are you telling your Friends and Co-workers?
I only told a handfull of people, I told my manager because her mom actually had her surgery with me, and then I told a couple people from work. I also told my best friend, and my mom. I wasn't going to tell my brother but I had to because he lives with me and he could tell something was up when I wasn't eating anything for a week after surgery. They are the only people I am telling for now, I really don't want to tell people because I don't want their negative opinions, and comments about how it was "the easy way out", and I really don't want everyone criticizing everything I eat. I'll probably tell more people down the road if they start making comments about my weight loss.

I told everyone who was close to me (friends and family) when I began thinking about getting wls. Once I began to get closer to the end of my testing I had to tell my boss because she needed a few weeks notice in order to arrange the schedule. Right after that I told a couple of co-workers who I am close to. Now I am much more cautious about who I tell. All the people that I chose to inform about my surgery are incredibly supportive and I am so thankful for that. If people ask me about it I tell them, but I don't just tell anyone anymore. I guess it's just because I have already told everyone who is important to me
I have told alot of coworkers, and all my friends and they were all cool about it. The only people in my family who know about it are my mom, my brother, and my aunt. I am kind of like you in not wanting to tell anymore family because my aunt really freaked out when I told her. I will tell family members, but not untill I have a surgery date. I really have no desire to hear anyone else oppinion-this is my life not theirs.
I told my best friend, my mom, my dad, and my aunt (who had the surgery in 2003). And they pretty much told the rest of my family (we are all gossips and cant keep a secret) but my family has been really supportive. I told my inlaws, because I am really close with them and they have been very supportive. Ofcourse I told my hubby, he was a big part in making my decision. And because of his nervousness/desire to talk about it with others, he talked about it with all the people he works with (whom I see all the time) and all but one was really supportive (and the one person that wasn't is really skinny and not a very nice person to begin with haha). So we have had like 95% support from the people that I have told.
I am in college and I have very little to no plans on saying anything to anyone that I have classes with unless they ask me. My best friend and I have classes together so I always have her around which is wonderful!
