July 23rd
OMG guys i have a date!!!! July 23rd!!!
I went to see Dr. Singh yesterday and he had me sign all my concent forms and then brought me to his secretary and we chose a date. Someone cancled on July 23 so he put me in right away. Im so happy! I cant believe this is really happening. I cant believe its so soon! only 3 weeks! Thank you for all of thoes who prayed for me, this date is perfect! I made appointments for my upper GI, gull bladder, and leg scan as well as for anastesia in the next 2 weeks. The only thing that worries me is that Dr. Singh asked me if I was prepaired to take a semester off if i needed to because of complications. I really cant take a semester off. Im graduating this year. We will just have to hope everything is ok. Wow I really cant believe it....
"I have already done the Upper GI (YUCK!) I wonder why? hmm I dont' even know what the point of it is"
The upper GI study is done beforehand so that the surgeon can determine if you're GI tract has any abnormalities in it's structure and function. They don't want to wait until they have you opened up to find out that you have an abnormal GI tract. If there is something majorly wrong, they might not be able to do the surgery, or they may have to take a different approach to it. The bottomline is - that as with all of the pre-op testing - the doctors don't want to be surprised, they want to minimize the risk to you and to their liability, so they want to find out as much about you as possible.
Another theory circulating is one that is more like a conspiracy theory that basicallly implies that the WLS surgeons make you go through such extensiive pre-op testing so that they can identify co-morbidities to help ensure that your imsurance sees the need for the surgery and thus increasing your chances of getting approved for payment. Also, the more that co-morbidiites can be identified and recorded, the more that the doctors can point to WLS as t he reason they were resolved by surgical intervention - thus offering even further proof to the insurance companies as to the effectiveness of these procedures which should help future patients in getting approved!
