long term success
Hi, I am 22 turning 23 soon, and will be having my surgery soon. Is anyone else out there worried about achieving long term weight loss with this surgery? My doctor said it is 80% effective long term, but I have been reading articles that say they have only seen success for up to 14 years. I will only be 37 at that point. I don't want to start gaining all my weight back in my thirties. Anyone else out there ever think about this?
Of course. I also was worried about the long term effects...like- is my body still going to function the same way in 50 years? These are the risks we are taking. I worry about gaining weight back, but not too much. Im hoping that this will change my lifestyle for the REST of my life....thats why we're doing this to ourselves, right?
There is only so much they know now, and there are so many people havinf these procedures. It is my hope that if things come up years down the road, that they will know what to do with this mass population of WLS patients.
I was willing to the risk. and thats my 2 cents

I agree 100% with what the other gal said.
I think it is up to the person on how succesful you are long term. This is a tool we have to use it right for the rest of our lives for it to be succesful long term.

We suffer from head hunger and other emotional issues that made us come to the point of needing surgery. We have to work on all aspects of life to be succesful I believe.
I'm only 11 days out from surgery but I trust in my God to help me through this journey.
Grace & Peace,

I was afraid too. That is why I decided to go with the Duodenal Switch surgery. It showed the best long term results from all the data that I was able to gather. But I totally agree with the previous posts, the only way to asure long term success is th change our life styles and stick to healthier ways.
